The UK's reputation was damaged when the government hesitated in
calling for an immediate end to the Lebanon war last year, MPs have
said. At the time, then-PM Tony
Blair was criticised for waiting a few weeks before eventually calling

A British resident held by the US as an alleged terrorist has claimed
his captors repeatedly tortured him, subjecting him to beatings, sexual
abuse and threats of execution. Omar Deghayes, 37, is one of five British residents who the United
Kingdom government last week asked the US to release from Guantanámo
Bay, after years of refusing to help them because they were not UK

Young people who do not know any Muslims or Arabs personally are more likely to hold Islamophobic and Arabophobic attitudes, with boys having more negative views than girls. This is the finding of Adrian Brockett and Nathalie Noret of York St John's College who will be talking about this issue at The British Psychological Society's Annual Conference at the University of Manchester on Friday 1 April 2005.

On Monday, the Iranophobia of US president George Bush was once again on display. The occasion was the joint press conference he gave at his Camp David resort along with Afghanistan's president, Hamid Karzai. Contradicting Karzai's statement in a CNN interview on Sunday that Iran was "a helper and a solution" to his country, Bush urged him to be "very cautious about whether or not the Iranian influence there in Afghanistan is a positive force".

Tension between British and American commanders in southern Afghanistan erupted into the open today as a senior UK military officer said he had asked the US to withdraw its special forces from a volatile area that was crucial in the battle against the Taliban. British and Nato defence officials have consistently expressed concern about US tactics, notably air strikes, which kill civilians, sabotaging the battle for "hearts and minds" and infuriating Hamid Karzai, the Afghan president.

As the drums of hate beat louder and louder, as our civil liberties are put more and more in danger, the time for action is now. We can no longer sit idle and allow these injustices to continue – but why should we take action? Why should we stand up against injustice? Because Allah commands us to, that’s why. Below are only some quotes from the Qur’an which call for Muslims to stand up for the truth no matter what the cost.

British officials have long refused to represent foreigners held at
Guantánamo who have UK residency. So today's announcement from the Foreign
Office and Home Office marks a change in policy. The move provides further evidence Gordon Brown, who as prime minister met
the US president, George Bush, for the first time last month, intends to plough
his own furrow when it comes to the special relationship. When Tony Blair was in Downing Street, the government concentrated its
efforts on securing the release of British citizens from Guantánamo.

Council of World Affairs (ICWA) and the mission of the League of Arab
States (LAS) in New Delhi just recently held highlighted India's still

MPACUK is a volunteer organisation and has limited resources so it cannot monitor every single post that goes on the website. It is an unfortunate situation we find ourselves in when some users of
this site decide to abuse it by posting irrelevant off-topic and
offensive material. We provide the privilege of allowing readers to post their thoughts
regarding particular issues highlighted in an article on our pages and
we trust our readership to be mature enough to abide by the rules.

Hundreds of protesters in Israel have marched outside Prime Minister Ehud
Olmert's office to demand more state support for Holocaust survivors. A government offer of a monthly stipend of $20 (£10) was labelled "insulting"
by the survivor groups that organised Sunday's demonstration in Jerusalem. Joining the rally were a few dozen elderly survivors, who say they can barely
afford medical treatment. Mr Olmert has said payments for the 250,000 survivors would begin in 2008.

GAZA CITY — Drugs have become
something of a rarity in the besieged Gaza Strip and medical equipment are
standing idle with many patients of chronic diseases like renal failure
resigning themselves to death due to the crippling international siege of the
Hamas-controlled territory. "Every time I go to hospital to get
drugs I get the same answer 'Sorry, we don't have your medication'," Ahmad, a
renal failure patient, told IslamOnline.net Saturday, August 4.
