Lost in Translation
Monday, 19 June 2006

Experts confirm that Iran's president did not call for Israel to be 'wiped off the map'. Reports that he did serve to strengthen western hawks. My recent comment piece explaining how Iran's president was badly misquoted when he allegedly called for Israel to be "wiped off the map" has caused a welcome little storm. The phrase has been seized on by western and Israeli hawks to re-double suspicions of the Iranian government's intentions, so it is important to get the truth of what he really said.

How Did The Israeli Media Report the Gaza Beach Massacre?
Sunday, 18 June 2006

The following are four extracts from the Israeli media showing how the Gaza Beach Bombing is being reported in Israel. Notice the emphasis on the British media not taking the IDF line in this article. British media have adopted the stand of human rights groups that Israeli artillery fire caused the deaths of seven Arabs on a Gaza beach Friday a week ago. The IDF and Defense Minister Amir Peretz totally rejected the claims and explained that the Palestinian Authority (PA) has manipulated material to back their accusations.

Sister Nisa Talks to MPACUK about Train Attack
Friday, 16 June 2006

Sister Nisa speaks to MPAC about how she hopes that justice can be achieved, not only for her but for all victims of Islamophobia. She explains that the reason she was abused on her regular weekly commute was not for any other reason but her Hijab. “It was a horrible thing” for Nisa to have to go through and now it must be the case that justice is achieved. It is high time that someone began to move vigorously towards explaining that Islamophobia will not be tolerated.

How Israel's Jewish Terrorist Became A Victim
Thursday, 15 June 2006

"Israel has shown time and again that it selectively enforces law and order, depending on the ethnicity of killer and victim."  Imagine the following scenario. A Palestinian gunman boards a bus inside Israel and rides it to the city of Netanya. Close to the end of the line, he walks over to the driver, levels his automatic rifle against the man’s head and pumps him with bullets.

Come On England!
Wednesday, 14 June 2006

Striker Wayne Rooney could make the England bench after coach Sven-Goran Eriksson described him as "match fit". But right-back Gary Neville (calf) is doubtful after being sent to hospital for a scan, with either Owen Hargreaves or Jamie Carragher set to deputise. West Ham's Shaka Hislop will continue to fill in for injured Trinidad and Tobago goalkeeper Kelvin Jack.

The Real Rogue States
Wednesday, 14 June 2006
We guess that public opinion holds no ground in these modern “Civilised” times where warlords, corporations and others hold illegitimate and obscene amounts of power. Power that they refuse to let go and cling on to with an extreme fervour and fundamentalist zeal. Their actions terrorise and threaten whole nations yet they are being allowed to get away with it.

Why "Pick On" Israel? Here's Why...
Tuesday, 13 June 2006

Israel’s defenders have a stock argument that goes like this: "Why do people pick on Israel? Sure, Israel has its faults, just like any country. Its government is not perfect and sometimes it does bad things. What government doesn’t? But how come some people seem to focus only on Israel? Boycott Israel, divest from Israel, they say; but never boycott Russia or China or Saudi Arabia or a host of other countries that do bad things.

The Betrayal of Asian Women
Tuesday, 13 June 2006

Last week the Home Office decided that there should be no specific offence of rape. This has meant that the definition of such criminal act has no specific ground, eventually driving such attacks and offences underground and further isolating the ‘victims’. What this article asks us is to review the role of Asian women in British society whilst coming from a traditional-minded family or upbringing. Can Western values of individual liberty, freedom and civil rights in a multicultural society be compatible with traditional practices, such as, arranged or forced marriages?

That girl broke my heart
Tuesday, 13 June 2006

Her scream shacked my soul… Her scream froze me like a worthless dirtbag… A tear tried to escape from my eye, but I am a man, and men do not cry… men fight. Am I a man? I do not know…Watching that small Palestinian girl on the T.V. arose doubts in my mind… Am I a human being? What did I do after watching her?

Survey: Muslim Women Don't Feel Oppressed
Sunday, 11 June 2006

Muslim women do not think they are conditioned to accept second-class status or view themselves as oppressed, according to a survey released Tuesday by The Gallup Organization. According to the poll, conducted in 2005, a strong majority of Muslim women believe they should have the right to vote without influence, work outside the home and serve in the highest levels of government. In more than 8,000 face-to-face interviews conducted in eight predominantly Muslim countries, the survey found that many women in the Muslim world did not see sex issues as a priority because other issues were more pressing.

Right Wing Media Complicit in the Persecution of Muslims
Saturday, 10 June 2006

Sometimes its best to let pictures do all the talking.

This is the frontpage of a couple leading British newspapers from last week, when two Muslims were arrested by police on terrorism charges following a massive raid during which one of the men is shot

Apartheid Israel Blows-Up 3 Infant Children into Pieces
Friday, 09 June 2006

Just as I've made my way back to Maryland, getting ready to post about how the rest of my trip went, and my stint on Democracy Now this morning, I learned that 10 Palestinians have been by Israeli shelling in northern Gaza as they were picnicking on the beach. 3 of them were children-two under the age of two. And their mother. And forty others wounded. We called my Aunt, who works with the al-Awda hospital in northern Gaza. She was hysterical, and this is a woman who seldom loses her grip.

US, allies hail Zarqawi killing
Thursday, 08 June 2006

The US and its allies have hailed the killing of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq, as a major victory in the fight against terror. George Bush, the US president, said on Thursday that al-Zarqawi's death in a US airstrike on a village north of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, was a "severe blow" to the al-Qaeda network.

Being Muslims ourselves we can honestly understand the frustrations within the community.

The Bungled Terror Raids
Tuesday, 06 June 2006

Only a few days ago we broke the news about a terror raid in East London during which a young Muslim boy of Bangladeshi origin was shot, (thankfully not fatally and please join us in praying for his speedy recovery). However we predicted at the time it was most likely a false arrest. It seems now, as information slowly leaks out that the intelligence was wrong.

America Never Learns
Tuesday, 06 June 2006

How does a nation such as the US try to establish World peace? By funding Somali warlords to prolong even further long-standing anarchy in one of Africa's most politically unstable nations. For over a decade now, there has been no central government in place in war-torn Somalia...

The Persecution of the Palestinians
Monday, 05 June 2006

“Why do they hate us?” So stunned Americans asked, after 9/11, when we learned that across the Arab world, many were saying, “The Americans had it coming.”

For a textbook example of why we are hated, consider Gaza and the West Bank. There, a brutal Israeli/U.S.-led cutoff in aid has been imposed on the Palestinians for voting the wrong way in a free election.

Abolishing WMDs: Some Suggestions From Blix
Monday, 05 June 2006

Since Hiroshima and Nagasaki the presumption has been that war can get no worse. The world has been spared a second nuclear war, so this presumption has a measure of truth. But the planning for major war has grown more alarming in all manner of ways — proliferation certainly but, not least, in the relatively recent statements of the US, Russia, the UK and France who, signaling a momentous shift in military doctrine, say that they are prepared to use their nuclear weapons for war fighting and not just for deterrence, as during the Cold War.
