Jihad

One of the biggest misconceptions about Islam is the myth that Jihad means Holy War. This is a huge distortion of what is perhaps the most important principles of Islam. Along side the propagation of this misunderstanding there are a few who have tried to reduce Jihad to just simply spiritual practice. It is only with a true understanding of Jihad and its obligatory nature that many elements of injustice in this world can be removed.

Here we present a plethora of articles on the topic of Jihad. A quick introduction to the word Jihad is provided in the piece entitled What is Jihad and the obligatory nature of it is discussed in Stop Making Excuses! Jihad Is FARD!

Jihad - The MPACUK Way

If you don’t know, listen up. If you do, what are you doing about it?! No doubt the Muslims are in the middle of a war. You may want to be in denial but just remind yourself every now and then, that it could be your brother they drag away in the middle of the night. Or it could be your hijaab that’s going to be ripped of your head. Shocked by my language and the brutality of my words?

What The Scholar's Say About MPACUK's Demand for Jihad?

Lets see what some of the great scholars from all schools of thought have to say about Jihad and its importance. Is MPACUK right or wrong about the priority of Jihad in every Muslims life - why have those who teach us Islam in the UK neglected it?

What is Jihad

The Islamic idea of jihad, which is derived from the Arabic root meaning "to strive" or "to make an effort," connotes a wide range of meanings, from an inward spiritual struggle to attain perfect faith to an outward material struggle to promote justice and the Islamic social system. The former meaning was emphasized by Sufis (Muslim mystics), who popularized a tradition describing the inner jihad as greater than the outer jihad. When used in the latter sense, jihad is closely identified with the injunction in the Qur'an, the revelation of God to the prophet Muhammad, to the Muslim community to "command the right and forbid the wrong" (3:104, 110). The close connection of jihad with the struggle for justice is reinforced in the hadith, the sayings and actions attributed to Muhammad. One of the best known states that a Muslim must strive to avert injustice first by actions, and if that is not possible, by words, and if that is not possible, at least by intentions.

Stop Making Excuses! Jihad Is FARD!

Why is it that when I approach a fellow Muslim about actively defending the Ummah (aka Jihad), they tend to invent a bunch of excuses why they have not got round to it or why they cannot enjoin, but when asked (by others) to pack their bags and travel half way across the country to study Fiqh, they are raring to go. (It's true, this happened last week when I asked Uni friends to respond to the Babar Ahmad alerts on the MPACUK site)
