VOTE OR DIE: Why British Muslims Must Vote! Print E-mail

The BNP Is Coming To Your Town

The British National Party’s pursuit of seats on Thursday's local elections is built on false claims designed to create racial prejudice and irrational fears among voters, according to anti-BNP activists. At a time of mounting alarm over prospects of the BNP making gains in local elections, a dossier of the party’s locally targeted literature has prompted fears that the claims being spread by the party are being accepted as fact by some voters. The campaign strategy of the BNP is consistent: create anxiety and rumour about immigrants in constituencies, with locally targeted literature. Depressingly, the lies and distortions of the BNP appear to be having an effect in certain parts of the country. The fringe party has extensively been spreading lies and propaganda against asylum-seekers and most significantly Muslims, fuelling racial tensions.

Concern over the party’s potential success in the local elections was triggered by Margaret Hodge, MP for Barking and Employment minister, who claimed that eight out of ten people in her East London constituency of Barking were threatening to vote for the party. Others have since predicted a similar boost in support for the BNP in other Boroughs around the country. Even though her comments may be very misguided in that they gave the BNP a lot of free publicity, they may have been a morale booster for the party. Margaret Hodge and others who have warned of the BNP threat have probably done it a favour by reminding voters of its existence.

Muslim Apathy

There has been widespread distrust of the Government, particularly among Muslim voters who were deeply affected by the so called 'war on terror'. The mooted BNP breakthrough might well be fuelled by those frustrated with Mr. Cameron’s new moderate stance on the asylum issue or the ‘politics of fear’ played by the New Labour government since September 2001. All this is probably amplified by the fact that this has all been amplified by a general dissatisfaction with mainstream political parties. We have therefore as a result, witnessed historical low election turnouts in recent years. According to the Electoral Commission, turnout of voters with Pakistani heritage is one of the lowest. The sad fact is that they do hold the voting power to make a statement or judge a policy. The biggest boost or help the BNP receive is from Muslims who cannot even be bothered to go down to their local school to cast a vote. We have long neglected the use of voting but we must realise that to push an agenda forward or to lobby an MP, we need leverage - and that leverage comes solely from votes. Turnout in General Elections is low but the turnout in Local Elections is simply pathetic. In such an atmosphere, fringe protest groups such as the UKIP and the BNP have benefited, particularly in the West Midlands.

We must encourage Muslims and help them to realise the importance of casting a vote. Just by voting, we can lessen the chance and even prevent the BNP slipping into a seat because of poor voter turnout on Thursday. The main areas of threat include Barking and Dagenham in London where the BNP is fielding 13 candidates and the West Midlands, especially Birmingham - where Alhamdulillah, there are sizeable Muslim numbers. In some seats, 100 votes either way could help the BNP get in and, in these areas, turnout is everything.

Of course, if the BNP is not standing in your area your vote still matters. How Britain’s Muslims vote and what it will achieve differs from constituency to constituency and from candidate to candidate. At best, tactical voting to elect a particular candidate will increase some good towards Muslims and maybe even remove and punish a candidate that has caused harm. Since the vast majority (typically over 70% in some areas) of people who traditionally cast votes in an election are aged over 40, the vote for the 18-40 age group is increasingly a deciding factor in elections and parties are realising the increased empowerment and political awareness of young Muslims as increasingly important.

Still Not Convinced?

With regard to the upcoming elections in the UK, Muslims are recommended or even obliged to vote for the party who will be of most benefit on a local level. However, despite such obvious threats, Muslims are still quarrelling over the "issue" of voting. Many are adamant that it is a Kufr and Haraam act. However, in May 2004 (before the crucial national elections), Sheikh Haytham Al-Haddad of the Al-Muntada Al-Islami Centre in London amongst many other world renowned Scholars, issued a fatwa in support of voting in British elections. His fatwa, titled ‘Why Vote, and Who To Vote For’ essentially stated that voting for a candidate or party that rules according to man-made law does not necessitate approval or acceptance of this candidate’s or party’s methods. Therefore, if a Muslim votes for such a candidate with the intention of enjoining the good and forbidding the evil and not because s/he believes that this candidate’s party legislates equal to or better than the Shariah, then s/he is not committing an act of Kufr. Obviously, if a Muslim votes believing that the legislation of a particular party is better than or equal to the Shariah, then s/he is committing kufr.

It is clearly evident to any Muslim who possesses a basic understanding of Islam that the greatest and most important aim of Islamic law is the deterrence of evil or the reduction of harm and the attainment of good or its increase. The establishment of a harmonious and successful way of life depends upon this principle. This is why the Islamic law - that is, the law of Allah - is never contrary to the basic needs of humanity, or establishes anything in contradiction to sound logic. Subsequently, it is an obligation upon every Muslim to achieve this aim, whether in part or in its totality. However, it is apparent that it is virtually impossible to attain this objective in its absolute sense, in the majority of cases; yet, in spite of this, Muslims must endeavour to carry out the necessary means that enable them to achieve this objective. Based on this, it is obligatory for those Muslims living under the shadow of man-made law to take all the necessary steps and means to strive to minimise the bad and maximise the good.

Voting Equals Muslim Empowerment

Voters switching to the BNP from the Tories or Labour should not mean that Mr Cameron is frightened back into the asylum-seeker baiting of the last two general election campaigns. The country is far better off with a more tolerant Tory party, rather than one that is prepared to pander to such distasteful attitudes. As for the Government, it should not interpret BNP gains as a cue to get "tougher" on immigration. A knee jerk reaction would only concede to the BNP that it has a point and that its foul deceits have some basis in truth. All civilized political parties should be falling over themselves to make it clear that the very opposite is the case.

It will be regrettable if the BNP, a hateful and malicious organisation, does well in Barking or anywhere else in the country in this month’s election. It will also be an example of how apathetic Muslim voters have become - they would not even consider voting when it directly affects them.

Given below is a suggested 3-Point Action Plan for Britain’s Muslims for this election:

1. Find out if the BNP is standing in you area - Tipton, Birmingham, Burnley, Barking and Dagenham, Huddersfield and many more (60 plus council wards...) - If they are, vote them out - and get all your friends and family to do the same.

2. If you are still unsure about the Islamic legality of voting, read the fatwa of Shaikh Haytham Al-Haddad (Google search for ‘Why Vote Haytham’) or speak to your local Imam who will surely justify voting to promote the betterment of our society. If you are still not convinced, then it is unjust to impose your opinion on other Muslims or pressure them against voting.

3. Compile a list of the phone numbers and addresses of every over-18 you know in your constituency (including mums, dads, sisters, housewives etc.). Contact them now to urge them to vote for the recommended candidate, explain to them why and how to vote. Offer your help on the day to take them to their polling station.

Voting tactically on 4th May 2006 will not change the world but, if successful, at least it will show that we are exercising our given right and part-taking in an activity we feel will bring a change for good. So let's get voting and used to this fact so come the next General Election we use the opportunity to vote tactically and elect the candidates we want.

We ask Allah to guide us to the right path.

Well done MPACuk- Nice article from you guys.

This is what the Muslim community in England need to realise. I will be voting on Thursday and will make certain that my friends and family are too.

Let's hope that we can increase the numbers of Muslims voting and clear the misconception that voting is Haram.

Shukren.

Muslims and Jihadists in particular do not need to vote, have no use for democracy, freedom of expression, Danish cartoons, human rights, peace and justice.

They have the Caliphate to take care of everything for them.

Wise words from MPAC. If the BNP do get elected in areas where there are large numbers of Muslim voters then they don't have anyone else to blame but themselves. Voting is a privilage and should be exercised. Time for the Ummah to wake up and well done MPAC for a very good article.

Muslims should vote. Didn't realise that some Muslims didn't.

If they don't, we could have people like the one who made the rather hysterical, not to mention ill-informed and ignorant comment about all Muslims being on benefits and taking British money, actually being given credibility!

Perhaps, someone needs to explain to some obviously under-educated people exactly how the economy works. There are many ethnic minority people including Muslims who create jobs in this country for people including white people, e.g. the food industry, opening factories, restaurants, etc. There are ethnic minority writers and musicians who rake money into this country from countries worldwide and pay taxes on the considerable earnings that they amass, money which they bring into THIS country. One of the most successful and wealthiest businessmen in this country is an Asian businessman who no doubt, will be plumping up the British economy with the huge tax payments he will be making on the money he makes.

Perhaps, the person who wrote this message should also look into the terms mercantilism and colonialism and understand what these things did to make this country what it is today.

Furthermore, converting all mosques into pubs may seem to this individual to be a "good" idea. However, perhaps, he/she should look into NHS records of the extortionate amount of money ( possibly, running into millions) being spent by the NHS in treating damage caused by alcoholism and binge drinking!

He/she should also look into the extortionate amounts of money spent by the NHS on treating STDs owing to sexual promiscuity among people who have no religious and moral framework by which to live their lives and who think rather sadly, that drinking and sleeping around constitutes a "good" time as opposed to thinking about deeper issues in life such as developing character, caring for others and living an honest and moral life.

Furthermore, perhaps, this person should look up the term, "scum" in the dictionary as he/she appears to have an obvious difficulty in his/her understanding of the definition of this word.

Finally, the plural of turkey is "turkeys," basic spelling that most year 7 children are able to get right. Perhaps, if certain individuals were better educated, they would not be found spewing views as ignorant as some of the ones we see expressed here today.

You Muslims , at the last election voted the Standing Intellegent Black Female Jew out as MP for Bethnal Green , even though she was an excellent MP and Spokes person for our Borough , in favour of a Scots Egotist, who knows nothing of our Eastend ways . Who couldn`t find a seat to contest and win anywhere else in the country . She has just returned from Africa after selflessly trying to help and educate the Black Africans to raise their standards of living and survive the harsh environment in which they live . Our New MP Gorgeous George Galloway , in the mean time ,has made a fool of himself and the idiots who voted for him , by appearing as a Pussycat , in a womens ballet leotard lapping nonexistant milk from the hands of an aging TV star on a game show !!Making himself and the borough a laughing stock ! Then you`ll complain when locals vote BNP !! Its true , you do get what you deserve when you act like Lemmings and vote without thinking

I voted today. Took a day off and helped the local MP and councillors to get our party the most votes they could. It felt good to have spent this time over the last few weeks participating in the local elections. We need to be represented in local politics rather than sit back and complain from our armchairs when nobody fights our corner. The next step is to reform the mosques for a modern Britain run by modern Britons and to open them up for the British people rather than let them remain closed little buildings that nobody wants to have in their area. MPAC – you have given a lot of guidance in these areas – if only more people listened. Keep on the good work!

It's abundantly clear that muslims in the UK would love sharia law implemented on this island. As for immigrants making Britain 'what it is today' you are right. We have slum areas, third world ghettos, no-go areas for our own white people, asians and blacks shooting each other, drugs, the constant threat of terror from 'extremist muslims' (there are no extremist muslims - they are just muslims) and an ever increasing feeling in the indigenous population of being marginalised by alien religions and races who are welcomed, accomodated and pandered to by a marxist liberal-left dictatorship.
Holland has had enough, as has Denmark, and now the tide is slowly starting to turn in the UK.
Take your paedophile prophet and your jihad elsewhere, Britain has had enough.

The Western worlds should simply deport back to E Europe ALL your kind “pam” or whatever you will post under, then use the money that goes to israel through the backdoor (stealing) to fund education programmes to tell the Whites what you really are like. The ghettos & squalor that you cause will automatically disappear as will the paedophilic z rabbis that give instruction to murder, blackmail & rape every day. No more 5th columns & race hate, no problem, no more zionists. Take your hate filled fanatics back to the toilet that whence you came from, then the LSD dealers that sell class A drugs & their love for kiddie porn as seen by the prosecution of your religious zealots will go as well. There never was a moderate zionist jew, its actions day in day out proves this. Your inhuman “culture” has so far been prevented from leading the West in Europe down into the toilet as anyone who wants to see its paradise only has to look at S America where 90%+ of the population live in abject poverty, this is where the West will end up if your kind are not stopped. We just survived two world wars as we fought, you passed on our military secrets, as some people believe the death penalty & treason acts has to bought back – then you are in big trouble.
Take your paedophile religion and your goyism elsewhere, Britain has had enough. Then we will lead by example of how to get back our country, the World will follow.

From the rantings of Pam Loraze, it's clear that some people seek to scapegoat Muslims and ethnic minorities for just about everything that goes wrong in this country. It's really rather pathetic.

For your information Pam, there were always ghettos in this country and there were always slums. Why don't you check out the history books and you'll seek how the working classes lived in Victorian times. Better still, read some Dickens and you might find that it'll burst the rather comfortable delusional bubble you choose to inhabit in order to insist that everything was so much better before the immigrants came!

Also, before mercantilism and colonialism by Britain of numerous countries around the world, Britain had its fair share of problems and poverty. Why don't you learn something about your own history instead of embarrassing yourself with your ignorant remarks?

Furthermore, what have drugs got to do with Islam? Where does it say that Islam advocates drugs or drink? Are you blaming drugs on Muslims now when intoxicants of any kind are forbidden in Islam?!! It's quite clear you're looking for someone to scapegoat!

It's not because of Islam that Britain has one of the highest rates of teenage pregnancies in the world, costing the state God knows how many much!? That's in addition to the money that the NHS spends on alcohol-related problems and STDs caused by the permissive values of the society you say is being ruined by Muslims! Islam does not advocate sexual promiscuity or drinking so perhaps, you should think twice before blaming all your problems on others but of course people like you, always do need to find a scapegoat to blame, don't you?

Furthermore, you defend Holland and then, you complain about drugs! Isn't it Holland that legalised drug-taking and prostitution? It's not the Muslims who you are desperate to blame who are doing that! It seems to me that in your desperation to scapegoat Muslims, you seem to be losing track of your own argument which is quite clearly FULL of inconsistencies!

As for blaming all crimes on ethnic minorities, Myra Hindley, Ian Brady, the Yorkshire Ripper, Maxine Carr's boyfriend, the nail bomber who killed hundreds in Soho, Southall, etc, were not ethnic minority people. Who are you going to blame for their crimes? Something that racists like you fail to understand with your simplistic way of thinking is that there is good and bad and all the varying degrees of in-between in all parts of the human race and in every ethnic group, whether Caucasian, Asian, black, etc. However, people like you deliberately choose to focus on the criminals in the ethnic minority communities while ignoring criminals in your own!

Furthermore, many of the immigrants here are the children of ex-colonials whose parents were invited into the country in the sixties and who uprooted and left their lives abroad to come and live here and actually as ex-colonials, they have a right to be here! Do you know anything about colonialism at all and what it means? Have you ever asked yourself why India was called the jewel of the British Empire? Have you ever asked yourself why the second largest diamond in the world, the Kohinoor, an Indian jewel is in the British crown? It's because India was a British colony and because the East India Trading Company did very well out of colonising India. It seems to me, you really need to learn a bit more about your own history before you make ignorant comments about the rights of ex-colonials and their children.

Furthermore, some of us have better things to do with our time that to try and force shariah law onto others and for your information, the word "jihad," simply means a struggle and can be used in a number of different contexts. It does not necessarily mean "war." Everyone has their own personal struggles in life, whether it's trying to juggle having a family and a career, whether it's trying to be a better person and understand the feelings of others ( something I'm sure someone like you would never care to do- it suits you much better to pile blame on, scapegoat, insult and rather simplistically, lump whole groups of people together based on their faith or the colour of their skin. It's obvious the concept of individuality is totally alien to you and to others like you.)

Finally, the Muslim prophet was no paedophile but I'm sure it would suit people like yourself to claim that he was as you seek to make yourself as objectionable and offensive as possible! If others were to take your offensive approach, there is a lot that we could say about your history and the things that went on in England over the centuries but some of us have friends of different racial background including white friends and are quite frankly, not so rude. We're also not so bigoted and simplistic in our thinking as to scapegoat and lump together whole groups of people based on their religion and the colour of their skin!
