Archive: MPAC Bill Of Rights “Our Right To A Democratic Mosque” Print E-mail
Wednesday, 01 February 2006

MPACUK the most ground breaking Muslim group in Britain today, pioneering concepts from Muslim women’s rights in the mosque to political empowerment for Britain’s Muslims.

Our pioneering concepts have made MPACUK probably the most influential Muslim group in Britain today.

Recently we unveiled our “rational Centre” concept. It explained our belief in Islam in the context as British citizens.

Now MPACUK unveil our latest concept – “The Democratic Mosque.”

MPACUK new concept will be nationwide programs and campaigns that will demand a radical step be taken never before attempted. MPACUK will be the first Muslim group in the country to demand all Mosques be run democratically. We demand a major overhaul of the institutions that run British Muslim life. We are in short demanding every single Muslim Leader in Britain be elected.

We demand that the Muslim community itself decides who will lead it. Mosque Leaders in the main are un-elected, getting the position through “Connections” not merit, and those that are elected have no transparent process where the community can really partake. We estimate that less then 5% of Muslims in Britain actually ever vote in any Mosque elections.

We believe it is every Muslim right. We believe we are being denied our rights. We believe that the time has come to stand up for our rights.

Where women are free to come and go as they please without be barred from a place of worship, where young men can apply their energies within a safe environment and lean new ways to help change the world, and professionals are not forced away from the mosque but encouraged to take the helm of its leadership and give something back to the community they so care about.

We no longer tolerate a mafia that holds our community back. No leader of our mosques should be allowed to cling to power without a popular mandate. No man has a birth right to lead us, they have no God given right to govern, they have no right to hold the keys to our institutions, until and unless the Muslims give them that right.

This will eventually spread to student Islamic societies, which in the main are un-elected too. One clique hands over power to the next clique in most cases.

MPACUK believes this will finally break years of institutional racism and tribalism within the Muslim Institutional system. We believe it will allow real reform to occur amongst the Muslim community and finally the beginnings of community improvement programs will take place, from educational centres to outreach programs, from Drugs rehabilitation to citizenship classes, from careers advice to media departments to counter Islamaphobia. It will also break the back of terrorist action in Britain as Muslims are taught how to take part to effect change Democratically, effectively and of course peacefully. We believe it is the beginning of true reform that will give us as a community the power to control our own destiny. And allow men and women we trust to guide us.

For too many years we have been held back due to the corrupt nature in which these men came to power. Men who were never really competent to be Muslim leaders, and have relied on the Muslim communities silence to carry on harming our future development.

We urge all Muslims to discuss this, whether you agree or disagree and give us feedback to improve upon our plans for the future. We are here to listen as well as teach.

The Muslim Public Affairs Committee should raise funding to operate a youth-led Mosque in the United Kingdom. I fully agree it may be difficult in the beginning, but if Muslim youth unite onto one project, I am most certain it would be a success (Inshallah).

The MPAC Mosque would provide activities such as:

Information Technology lessons: The I.C.T facility would be manned by the best Muslim professionals around, providing extra boost in resource and technology insh'Allah.

Youth Activities
Employ youth workers to work effectively with Muslim youth and encourage them to partake in educational, recreational & social events around the mosque. Our youth often complain of an age gap in the mosque, our duty is to change this by engaging young people.......

Maybe, once a week you could invite a community police officer and MP to participate in a question & answer session with local Muslims in the mosque.

A mosque media office dealing specifically with tackling Islamophobia within British society & within that locality, wherever you plan to establish the mosque.

Maybe have a bookshop.

Careers office- for young people wanting to go into further education, higher education and employment immediately after etc.

Thanks

To Tony

We just want to be able to contribute to the better good of this country.

We don't want any more Muslims in jail, prone to violence or crime, so we can educate the youth and get them to participate in the wider community. To make a contrubution in making this country successful.

The Muslim community is in dire straits due to being shackeled by our community leaders who want us just to grow big beards and wear baggy clothes.

We want ENGLISH people to see that we are not terrorists, and that we share values of truthfulness, fair play and decency, after all is that not what England stands for?

We are not asking for money from anyone,or speacial treatment.

Is that really too much to ask?

We must all break the mafia system in the masdjids. In our case its one that was dominated by alcohol selling resturant owners. Now it is changing alhamduillah. We are getting more professional people on the committee. However we have a problem with racism still. We have Arab against Arab class issues, Bangla against Pakistani etc. This is just the old British Governments Divide and Rule techniques that work so well in our communities. We need to be democratic yes but we also need to unite as MUSLIMS and, like our Shoes, leave our cultures at the mosque doors.

It is all fine electing committee leaders for the masjid and running all these activities.

But you still need to keep the elders on your side and keep them involved. Otherwise you will create another set of problems and more divisions in the community.

To get a fluent english speaking imam I suspect you will have to pay a much better salary than the present situation.

You would need to get the youth in to the masjid for regular prayers and to reach out to working professionals to contribute to the funding.

Guys should only be able to vote in a mosque they pray at at least 7 times in a week.

No pray - no vote.

Then the real muslims will be at the helm of the mosques.

How do you feel about that SirB et al?

OK Maj, but lets not forget that he should have a least a 'mutti' of a beard, correct attire (shalwar kameez, green topi, black waistcoat holding at least 2 silver pens) and must own at least 3 properties.

Only then can he become a commitee 'elder'.

Lol !

Bismiallahi Alrahmani Alrahim
I live in the USA in a community of tens of thousands of Muslims, 20-30 years ago few local Muslim doctors joint together and bought an old church with the contribution of the Muslim community, and with the donation collection trip to the oil-rich Muslim countries, which became an annual event, they converted the church to a mosque and put a school in rented mobile buildings next to the mosque, they formed a committee of a non-profit organization with them as owners, they control every thing, example: a wife of one doctor without any formal education got a job as a principle of the school, and probably with a good salary, they charged $6500 /year or more for each student(summer programs are extra), they keep demanding donations, after every Friday Khutbah we are lectured for at least half an hour "this is not your money, its Allah's money and you are entrusted with it, your duty is to contribute...."I asked the Imam once nicely to post the expenses and contributions amount on their bulletin board every once in a while and I was answered that is not my job to stir trouble, and I was hated, 3 years ago the State revoked the license of the school for giving fake grades to their beloved & friends youngsters, they turned to the Muslim community again with a large donation campaign, and a special trip of collection to the oil-rich counties (beside the annual trip) collecting enough to buy a two pieces of lands one built a new school the other to use as parking lot for the mosque with a beautiful house (a ranch) in the back for their beloved imam, a member of the original gang, who’s wife still sells used Islamic cloth in the parking next to the mosque, she will swear to you without any hesitation that its new, while the Imam charges a high rent fee for few other Muslim vendors there. There are many other like me dissatisfied Muslims which left the mosque, but they all fear this gang.
And a lot of Muslim families move to this area newly every year, they are mostly trusting good Muslims believe in them until he/she find out the facts about them and if honest will leave or bought off. After the school closed, they hired an educated older Muslim without proper residency documents to work as a principle for a low salary working long hours (as most of their teachers who accept low salaries to get experience and any missing requirement for a better job in another school after that they leave fast), they applied to the State for a new license and got it, of course they raised student tuition, all the workers there are related and/or good friends, I never mentioned my feeling to any one except my immediate family, I am professional and don’t need problems, but I lost hope, every thing is run exactly as in the Islamic-governments-way: dictatorial, deception, opportunist, smile to your face and continuous backbiting, these doctors became so rich that some of their women boast that they own few McDonalds and other investment in the US and in their countries, they live in mansions, I am not against any one becoming rich, I hope all Muslims are rich and prosperous, but if any one complains they either buy him off by a job or a “grant” for their youngster in their school, or they will jointly scold him/her finding Fatwas from their Imam to support them, they gang together like a pack of hyenas with beards and come after you, and believe me I lived in other states and it’s the same.
I lost hope. I lost hope. We have big problems because we stopped being good Muslims.

May Allah (SWT) guide us all.
