Arab Blogger Blames The Bloody Foreign Policy Print E-mail

The normally sober Associated Press chose the headline, "Analysis: Plot may have been 9/11 sequel." Let the speculation games begin.

The news report went on to cite "terrorism experts":

"In terms of scale, it was probably designed to be ... a new Sept. 11," said Jean-Charles Brisard, a French private investigator who works with lawyers of many Sept. 11 victims. "It involved the same tools, the same transportation tools and devices."

Rohan Gunaratna, a terrorism expert at Singapore's Institute of Defense and Strategic Studies, said everything known so far points to involvement by Osama bin Laden's terror group.

"It is a classic al-Qaida tactic. It is a hallmark of al-Qaida to carry out coordinated, simultaneous attacks and the aviation domain is certainly known to al-Qaida," he said.

I love the last quote best -- carrying out "coordinated, simultaneous attacks" in the "aviation domain" is only something Al Qaeda could do. Others prefer uncoordinated, random attacks on land or sea. It's like Al Qaeda is a recognizable brand or something.

I've read these early reports. I think it is safe to say that there is much more we do not know about this than we do know. Though the media get more worked up than a little caffeinated kid on Christmas Eve, it should let some of the facts come forward before declaring this the next September 11. It's too bad the forces of spin appear out of control already.

This is not to deny that some people wish great harm on innocent civilians in the UK and the US. They see this, wrongfully, as a just response to the great harms the UK and the US inflict upon others in the world.

Acts of violence against civilian populations have no transformative effects. This is the strategy of the weak, and is doomed to fail. Power, this day and age, is institutional. Al Qaeda cells and wannabees would better contribute to their cause if they built up their home countries or started new institutions in the host countries.

Either way, I am glad no airplane travellers were killed today by political violence (unlike Palestinians, Iraqis, Afghans, Israelis, and Lebanese). They only suffered long lines and inconvenience (still nothing compared to those living under occupation).

While Arabs and Muslims have an obligation to become empowered, to strengthen the alternatives to such violence, Americans, Israelis and Britons would be well-advised to push for humane and fair foreign policies. You can't oppress your cake and eat it too. In other words, you want cheap oil, control of the Middle East and to hold on to stolen land. Fine. You can't expect your victims and their allies to like you, too.

With Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan and Lebanon under total onslaught from the American alliance, the resentment is bound to manifest in violent forms. We all have to work to end the state-sponsored violence that makes the war on terror an agenda despised by masses around the world. Arabs and Muslims must build effective alternatives and push to reform internally and externally, the western countries. Then, groups like Al Qaeda and its copycats will fall into irrelevance.

Right now, the Bush-Blair-Olmert axis of oppression is what gives anti-western violence its fuel. Al Qaeda and this axis vibe off each other. Good people of the world need to repel both.

What absolute nonsense we are hearing at once again. "Frozen their assets.."! As if a 17 year old has assets! This is going to turn out to be a complete farce like the Forest Gate raid, Ricin plot et al. I suppose they're all muslim students studying scientific subjects. Or maybe they drink soft drinks like Tango. Sounds more like a "You've been tango'd" advert altogether.

The only fascists are the Blair government and Bush regime. What a word to pull out and use on us. What's more disappointing is the defensive behaviour of our "leaders", like the chap interviewed on Sky News this morning from Birmingham, who cannot expose the rubbish in the media, only act defensively and apologetically once again.

Enough to make me leave this pathetic country.

Bob, Bob, Bob....what a terrible thing to say...

And as for Sue...yep, we're all leaving this pathetic country, admittedly not to live in a tent in the desert, but, yes, you're right. But don't go on an American plane for goodness sakes!!!

Personally, I have many reasons for leaving this pathetic country, but more on that later.

Bob, what can I say...you don't represent the views of most of the British public. We're a nation of animal lovers after all, and animals don't come out with the sort of crap that can be found on this site, and many others like it.

There are no real British people left, they've emigrated! Yes, and good riddance, they were a load of imperialistic fascist zionist racist bigotist whitist scum who needed blowing up anyway.

They went because they were sick of playing host to supposedly 'spongers' and 'parasites' from not only other countries but home grown ones as well.

I mean, how dare they complain about people like me and Sue, who converted in the last day or so and are willing to give our lives for...here, Sue, what are we willing to give our lives for? I've forgotten, must be the semtex in my shoes, my feet are killing me (and a plane load of Americans)!!!

Ah, yes, Sue...I'm leaving because there's nothing left. Please keep it, you're welcome to wander about in flip-flops or curly slippers in an outfit that resembles a black pillar-box if that's what you REALLY want.

On a serious note, the few British people left were outraged by the attack on Lebanon (a beautiful country with really nice people...been several times) but are tiring of the rantings of 'students' such as Sue and the other losers on here, so no longer feel sympathetic and wish you'd take your fight elsewhere.

I'm off to Pakistan with my ten wives and fifty kids to get housing benefit and live on the dole at the expense of the local population, oh yes, I'm going to force my religion down their throats and make them change to suit me. Might even cut one hand off and wear a hook like that loser down South.....and preach to other losers who don't know how good they've got it.

Yeh the people to get kicked out from other countries were the British for scrounging all their wealth, food, ideas, resource and the rest. Our forefathers actions were a cause of SOME OF THE world destruction AND MAJOR poverty (AND THIS IS STILL GOING ON BY 'OUR' EU LEADERS, UNFAIR TRADE POLICIES) which can be traced back not so long ago. I am not saying we are to blame or WE HAVE TO COMPENSATE or what ever. My point is how dare, HOW DARE YOU SCUMMY PIECE OF FILTH call other people scroungers and spongers, HOW DARE YOU STEREOTYPE A WHOLE GROUP OF PEOPLE IN YOUR IMAGINARY FASCIST BNP THICK MENTAL BRAIN. I am sick to death of people like BOB (fabricating and blatantly making false accusation and remarks about people who he has no clue about. It literarily makes me sick people like Bob and his fellow Comrades being portrayed as the people of Britain, it is utterly sickening, yes sickening. I am a white Anglo English born in Britain and truly a patriotic British, I love this country and love its people who have settled here from all walks of life, I love them and hope there are more, swallow this, we can't live or survive as an economy without the real hard working class blacks, whites, Asians, Indians and the rest. They are here and here for good, so swallow your paranoia and if u have the guts, go to Pakistan and settle their see how u cope, the people of other countries have done it, they did not come in the 60 and 70's to find white people likes us exactly laying the red carpets and throwing flowers at them whilst giving them royal jobs, DID THEY? YEH I BET UR GOB SMACKED BACKSIDE OF URS HASN’T GOT A THING TO SAY.

Israel and Qatar signs oil deal from Amman confab

NAOMI SEGAL
Jewish Telegraphic Agency

JERUSALEM -- The three-day Middle East and North African Economic Summit in the Jordanian capital of Amman generated Israel's first major business contract with a Persian Gulf state.

The Amman gathering, with the slogan "The Middle East is Open for Business," drew nearly 2,000 government officials and business leaders from 60 nations for meetings aimed at promoting regional development.

A business summit in Casablanca, Morocco, one year ago was largely ceremonial. Israelis and Arab businesspeople mingled openly for the first time then.

But this year, the emphasis turned to planning for cooperative projects and making business deals.

One dramatic change: the signing of an agreement by which Qatar would sell $2 billion worth of natural gas to Israel via the American energy company Enron.

Oooh, Peter from Yorkshire....get you!

What exactly have you to be proud of about being British? This country is a dump and it's governed by morons.

There's nothing left...it went to the wall years ago.

As for Britain reaping the rewards of plundering the wealth of other countries, how far back would you like the blame to go? Surely it could be argued that most countries are now more enlightened and educated than they would have been had they been left alone?

Just take a look at the places that have reclaimed their independance and failed. Miserably.

Oh yes, I'm not a comrade of Bob...and as for being a paranoid racist BNP member, I don't think they'd be too pleased to have me, 'cos I aint white!!

Rattled your cage, haven't I Peter...excellent...nice to see some light-hearted banter on this site, not before time either!
