The Israeli government has created an internet campaign to counter what it claims is a biased and pro-arab propaganda on the internet. The Foreign ministry has ordained trainee diplomats so that they can track down chatrooms and forums to post positive messages of the animalistics behaviours of Israel. To this date, over 4,000 members of the World Union of Jewish Students have downloaded special ‘megaphone’ software that alerts them of anti-israeli chatrooms or polls so that they can join and post their viewpoints. Many members of the international students group claim that jewish student that know a lot of web-content were made for these types of debates, on the internet, the aim of the students is not just to promote their views on anti-israeli sites, but to also swing the momentum of the debate to israel’s favour. Johny Cline of the international students group said “we’re saying that if Israel is being bashed, don’t ignore it, change it” Mr Cline goes on to state “A poll like CNN’s takes a few seconds to vote in, but if thousands take part the out come will be changed” Daron Barkat, 29. from Jerusalem spends long nights talking the internet in search for anti Israeli sites, “When I see internet polls for or against Israel I send out a mailing list to vote for Israel,” he said. “It can be that after 15 minutes there will be 400 votes for Israel” The Israeli government is not in close contact with these campaigns but does stay in close contact with international Zionist evangelicals who are campaigning on the internet Amir Gissin, the Israeli Foreign Ministry’s public relations director, said: “The internet’s become a leading tool for news, shaping the world view of millions. Our problem is the foreign media shows Lebanese suffering, but not Israeli. We’re bypassing that filter by distributing pictures showing how northern Israelis suffer from Katyusha rocket attacks.” In this age of warfare, information and also support is vital, and it is crucial that Israel does not win the wars being waged in the middle east or on the internet.
