The union of every racist, homophobe, anti-semite, islamophobe in the country, were once again in total confusion this week when they realised that a man named Sharif Abdel Gawad was seeking to stand as a councilor for the BNP. As the BNP hierarchy got busy on their phones reassuring their racist supporters that "he is definitely not a Pakistani Muslim", far right websites spewed out posts full of hate, rage and utter confusion. The Guardian reports : "One regional organiser responsible for the candidate's selection is thought to be under pressure to resign. Another regional organiser is leading the dissent against the party leadership, saying it had betrayed the members and would confuse voters. On online noticeboards used by BNP supporters, scores of contributors denounced Mr Gawad's selection. They said the BNP should remain an all-white party and the decision to appoint him was taken over the heads of rank and file members. Yesterday the BNP admitted it had received a number of calls from angry members and that a hardcore had refused to accept Mr Gawad's candidacy on race grounds 'even when it was explained that he was not a Pakistani Muslim'. " The BNP are aiming to double their tally of 20 councilors in the upcoming local elections and hoping they don't lose more of their seats to honest local mothers . Readers have left 6 comments.

Apparently the BNP are going to win seats in the up and coming council elections, a warning to all those 'community leaders' or maybe it is too late.

All the blame lies with Tony Blair... he has ignored his voters whether they are Muslim or Christian they all hate him now. The best way to embarrass him is to excercise a protest vote. I would have voted for lib dems in protest but after they got rid of kennedy and appointed a pensioner as their leader.. i dont see them making any progress. Ofcourse the BNP cant win any council seats, they will have a problem keeping the seats they have at present. Although I'm not white but i can understand why people would vote for the BNP as it the best way to embarras Bliar.

The singular reason that the BNP is finding support amongst the mainly white working class population is that the other parties have long deserted them. The traditional working values of hard work and abiding by the law proved to be fruitless by the late 1970's. Despite liberal middle class promouncements, it is the working class that has had to shoulder the impact of immigration and mutli-culturalism, and the changes in social provision which now no longer reward those who have contributed to society. Further de-industrialisation hit the white working classes very hard, and successive governments failed to address this effectively.
If we want to deny the BNP any chance of electoral success we must seek unity with the white working class and find common ground with them for mutual benefit. That means we have to compromise, we have to listen, and we have to give recognition to that this country that we all benefit from was primarily built on the efforts of the white working class. The traditional values of the white working class in UK are not dissimilar to those of Islam, and certainly there is a great commonality. This is now a chance for us to show leadership and vision, and to demonstrate to the white working class that Islam is not a threat but a positive ally for the common good.

Young Nazi and Proud "BNP". I found the documentary which can be downloaded from islamic torents, exposing the BNP racist mentality.
Dispatches reporter David Modell films a remarkable six months spent in the questionable company of Mark Collett, leader of the youth wing of the British National Party, and reveals the true nature of a party trying to reinvent itself and broaden its appeal. Documentary shown as part of the Dispatches series on Channel 4 . A reporter investigates the BNP's attempts to make itself more electable by spending 8 months with the leader of the Young BNP. The programme offers an insight into the controversial and sometimes confrontational politics of the far right.

Just to interject with an external perspective, it seems apparent that in a society where the populace are force-fed sermons of fear and suspicion by the media, is it any great surprise the working-class Caucasian population (arguably the most susceptible to media manipulation) are taken in? Furthermore, when another culture within what is percieved to be 'their country' is barely recognised as much more than a collection of drug dealers and terrorists, can they be entirely to blame? Of course, parties such as the BNP merely aggrivate these stereotypes and as such accentuate the prejudices engrained for generations. But, as was previously mentioned, more should be done by way of integration. There is much suspicion in common between each culture, and with the increasingly exclusive, not to mention almost secretive, Muslim community in Britain, the situation is unlikely to improve. On the one hand, Muslims are all tarred as terrorists and miscreants as far as the working-classes are concerned, and on the other, only the prejudices resultant from the actions of a misguided and dangerous few are appreciated. As long as extremists exist on what is becoming an ever-widening divide exist, there can be no greater British community.
