| Our Mosque Leaders Let Us Suffer |

There are currently over 150 muslims imprisoned within the United
Kingdom whom have been arrested for alleged terrorism and related
offences. Often their rights are violated, their families humiliated,
and in some cases they have been seriously assaulted. There cannot be
one Muslim prisoner in the United Kingdom who has not suffered
physical, verbal abuse or harassment.
The muslims are asking for the support of the believers, and it saddens me to see kind-hearted non-muslim people whom help the muslims out of love try to fill a void that should be filled already by the muslim community. The ‘community’ in the eyes of the inmates is often a myth. It is not the community leaders or the imams who are writing to them, it is mainly women, both muslim and non-muslim.
Where are the Muslims? Readers have left 7 comments.

I think it is fair to say that Muslims should help ANY PRISONER who has been treated unfairly, or imprisoned over allegations. Not necessarily Muslims for Muslims as this sounds sectarian, although I do understand why Muslims would be better placed to help the needs of Muslim prisoners. This is how the hearts and minds of the non-Muslims will be won over, when they see Muslims applying Justice fairly to all. While I have sympathy for Muslim Prisoners who have been banged up over terrorist allegations, and related offences, and find themselves being treated harshly with no rights (when they have not been proven guilty and remain innocent), I regret my sympathy cannot extend to those Muslims who deserve to be in prison because they are either drug dealers, pimps, extortionists, rapists, etc. The latter Muslims deserve what they get. Out of these, some may genuinely repent (and deserve guidance and help). But most will come out and repeat the offence. I have no sympathy for these Muslims as they are a stain on our community. In a recent news article, I found it quite amazing that Muslim gangs operate in certain Prisons and demanded certain rights. Had these Muslims been proper law abiding Citizens, they would not have been in the prisons in the 1st place. Wasalaams and Regards

Qoute..Look at the Jews in Nazi Germany, they stayed silent apart from a few, until there was no-one to defend them against the Fascist Oppression, picked up one by one with the 2nd person every time saying “its because he’s too Jewish..he needs to integrate with the Nazi Society more..Thats exactly what David Horowitz et al say about Europes silence 'creeping Sharia '..their words NOT mine..The UK is not perfect no country is,,but out of those 150+ prisoners not all of them will be innocent..As for EVERY Muslim prisoner being abused i find that hard to believe as the UK has handed our prisoners too many rights..It is sad for their will be innocent guys in jail and i am happy that non muslims are supporting their cause..Good luck on this one MPAC

The days when muslims were true muslims and were willing to go out of their way to help others are sadly no more.
Nowadays muslims are only in it for the dollars and if they do help anyone or even care about anyone it will only be close family. They only profess to care about allah and his prophet to show others that they are good muslims but they have no true feeling for islam or muslims. They are the ones that can not see the bigger picture and think that they are ok jacks (from thatcher era)and sod eveyone else. Maybe true muslims and islam is not to be found in our coutnry anymore because it has either been diluted or the muslims have been either brainwashed or beaten into submission into giving up Islam and the title muslim in everything but name.

Are you saying that firstly justice is always done? and secondly there is no sign of any compassion in Islam? Those that are locked up are serving their sentence do you want to punish them again??? I am sure that there are many hadeeth that even the most evil people deserve some compasssion if only even a little depending on their crime. You also sound as though you are one of those that think that when a muslim has been found guilty of a crime then he is a representative of the community but when someone else commits a crime then it is just another prisioner and not representative of any community. WE should encourage those that are gulity to repent and seek forgiveness from allah (swt) and their victims just as we all seek forgiveness from the almighty. WE can't do that if we won't even write to them. A little kindness can go a long way and I am sure that there are also many hadith to back that up in the example of the holy prophet (pbuh)

How many of them have been tried by a jury and convicted of those offences? Or do you reject the possibility that any of them are guilty? Or do you merely think that muslims should not be subject to kaffir laws?

I stand by with what I said. I drew a clear distinction between innocent Muslims who are banged up on allegations (and deserve our sympathy and support) over those not-so-innocent Muslims who have commited major crimes such as drug dealing, pimps, extortionists, rapists, etc. The latter have disobeyed GODs laws and so need to be punished appropriately. When Allah's laws have dictated execution for a murderer, severe punishment for a drug dealer or rapist, should I feel sympathy when punishment is given to them ?. Had Muslims who have commited such offences been caught up in conservative Saudia Arabia, do you think they would be enjoying rights ?. Do you think they would even be alive based upon their crimes. What about the rights of the victims ? Kindness is easily extended to those who have commited minor crimes and are willing to repent. They need help. Kindness extends to those who are jailed over allegations and treated harshly. They need help. Alas, kindness is difficult to show on those who have done serious crimes. In Islam, if the victim family are not willing to forgive then punishment has to be met. Do we still give out kindness to such Muslims ? I do not understand when on the one hand, Muslims (and some non-Muslims) say that the UK needs some sort of Sharia-Law like Saudia Arabia to get the criminals off our society, so that the society is free of ills. (as this Country is soft on criminals). Then, on the other hand some suggest that Muslims who have committed vile acts should be treated with 'kindness'. I'm sorry, but GODs law is the law. Punishment is Punishment. You can show as much 'kindness' to a rapist, murderer, drug-dealer as you so wish, but this will not change the punishment that needs to be done on that individual owing to the grave nature of his crime. Yes, the Prophet (PBUH) did show kindness to his enemies, even to those who did personal harm to him, but when Allah's punishment needed to be done then punishment was done. With respect to the community issue, when a Muslim does a dishonest act or commits robbery, attempted rape, acts like a pimp, then while THAT PERSON is responsible for his actions and no one else. But in this day and age, anything that a bad-Muslim does becomes media news and the whole Muslim Community then suffers as a result. This is how bad-Muslims are a stain on the community. Any thing else, you would like me to cover. ? Wasalaams

Salams,
I would like to point out that it is a right of any citizen in this country to be tried according to a jury of his peers as per the magna carta. This means those who are of the same standing, social class, and from a cross-section of the population. There are also examples that the trial is not prejudiced, by having material in the public domain that would deem someone guilty based on opinion before the trial begins. Now, I am not saying that everyone is innocent, in fact far from it, though without a doubt some will be, just like the Irish situation 20 years ago. The Birmingham six and guildford four were found guilty after false statements and a prejudiced trial. Who is to say the same is not occurring today within the muslim community? I believe that many of those, guilty or not, have not had a fair trial and therefore their incarceration may be suspect. There is also an issue of the sentences....life sentences, 20 years, 32 years, etc, for nothing more than having a few books or a stupid conversation. This is in relation to rapists getting community service, child abusers being given probation, and even kidnappers being given 5 years. This is not justice, this is clearly victimising the muslim community as the irish were before. WS Umar
