Chief Press Officer For Green Party Writes into MPACUK Print E-mail
Thursday, 01 May 2008

sian_berry.jpgI agree that Boris Johnson as mayor would be a total disaster for community relations and the situation of Muslim Londoners. You are right to be cautious.

But there is no extra risk in voting for Siân Berry of the Greens first and giving your second vote to Livingstone.

As you say, Johnson would need to get 50% of the vote to end the race in the first round. If he achieves this, the vote Livingstone achieves at the same time is immaterial. All that's important here is that you do turn out to vote, and that you do not vote for Johnson.

It is in the second round where tactical voting is necessary. We are advising our supporters to put Livingstone second as, if Siân has been knocked out in the first round, it will be Ken Livingstone who is best placed to beat Johnson. Any second votes for Livingstone at this stage will be added to his 1st round tally and count at full value.

On the other hand, if you vote Livingstone first, and he is, as expected, in the second round, your second vote will never count at all and you will have lost the opportunity to send, for example, a message of opposition to the national Labour government.

The best vote to send a strong signal for a fairer London, and maximise the chance of stopping Johnson, is Siân 1, Ken 2.

Thanks for your time,

Gary Dunion

Green Party

Salaams - well, she's no less experienced than Boris. What's he done? Edited a dodgy right-wing rag, made a pillock of himself on tele and been opposition spokesperson for Higher Education (not that hard considering his a Greek scholar).

Sian has some excellent policies, and the Environment is a very important responsibility according to Islam. I gave Sian my 2nd preference vote today.

And I did vote Green party for the London wide assembly - I hope the green voice continues to be heard in the GLA, and with proportional representation on the GLA list my vote should make a difference I hope.

Alhamdillah, after 3 weeks of phoning my family, sitting down with all of them, and trust me, I got huge circle of family in london - they all agreed to vote for Ken and then second vote for Siān Berry.

And I tell yah, I am shattered. I don't how on earth Mpac does it every day but man, just 3 weeks, of going from one house to another, one house to another, phoning, emailing, and even getting them to come to this site if possible to read.

I even got a presentation board out and had to go through politics, how it works, why not Boris, and yes ken because many of them thought Voting was haraam.

In total, 120 of family members, and not counting others, have voted for Ken and second vote for Siān Berry.

For those who say voting is haraam - you do not know how much damage you have caused and the confused you have made.

But, due to how much of a shamble your reasons are and WEAK, it didn't take long to get my uncles, aunties, and step parents, and rest of families, relatives to see - the reasons you gave is weak.

I rather Ken get it than Boris, and from now on, I am putting all my efforts to educate our family members on politics so people like the ones who keep saying voting is haraam and succeed with people who got no understanding, and just follow the crowd - never get dumbed down by such people.
