This podcast was originally recorded last summer, but we've republished it as we've received some emails asking what MPACUK's stance is regarding the mega-mosque. Readers have left 26 comments.

I always used to think TJ was a very humble movement. This mosque does not seem to be the work of humble people! What has gone wrong!?

I hope this is passed on to Br Zulfi.
I agree with every word you said, however, I am hurt by one of your comments. Though, I acknowledge many people preach sectarianism, they are not confined to any one group. I am brevli/Sufi and I teach, but I do not teach sectarianism in any way or form, please don’t judge the many by the actions of the few. Thank you Waslaam

up until this podcast, I thought MPAC had gone a step to far on opposing the mosque, now I understand why. If TJ want me to pray in their mosques, they have to give me a reason why, and clean carpets and an Imam are not good enough.

Great podcast. I cant believe they hired a PR firm for themselves but never hired it for the ummah - its sick when you think of it like that.

There's a lot of innuendo and generalisation in this have-a-pop podcast.
I don't agree with a lot of what the Jamat does or teaches, but it has been the means for bringing people into Islam the wolrd over and in the UK too. Who needs enemy's when we have MPAC.

totally agree with abdullah. "Calling a mosque an "abomination" and slandering pious people of being "racists" will place you in a very precarious place in the eyes of Allah" totally agree with anees. i use to have some respect for mpac before, but i see them know of trying to divide the ummah. How many heads TJs have MPAC spoken to regarding the building of a masjid. TJ is a non-political movement, which is why mpac criticises them so much, very unfair. A lot of non-muslims would sign against anything islamic, and the petition had so many signatures because this issue had so much coverage in the non-muslim arena. by the way, i think the speaker in the podcast uses far too much metaphors, which are unrelevent.

i think the points are valid, if Tabligui Jamat want the Muslims to support them, then they have to support Muslims, the truth is they are political as pointed out in the podcast, after all they are lobbying the politicians, also they TJ are poliitcal after all Lord Patel got a Labour peerage, they are political just look at the lancashire council of mosques and how many members of TJ are members of the labour party.
So MPAC's and Zulfi's point is valid and needs an answer not excuses.

Some of the points made may be valid Rashid, but the tone taken to deal with it also needs to be islamically valid. Throwing around general statements of criticism isn't just. It also demonstrates how divided we Muslims are.Every group specialises in its own area of Dawah. MPAC plays its role in its niche area. TJ also plays its role in its niche. It's better to do a little something well than to try and do too much and end up not doing much at all.TJ is probably the largest body of organised muslims in the world. They call the muslims to the basic things like prayer and reliance in Allah. Like I said I don't agree with much that is done through the Jamaat and I believe they can do a lot more due to their big numbers. I just disagree with the tone of the podcast. We muslims make the best armchair critics and end up falling for the old 'devide and rule' game.

Dont you backward mosque lovers see that the podcast made some excellent points or does your cult stop you thinking. Come on tell the public - why did they hire a PR firm for themselves the greedy rats, but when the Muslims are attacked all they say is 'no politics in the mosque?' Pathetic!

Personally, I support the project as it caters for Muslims and will be great da’wa during the 2012 Olympics. In London, I already live amongst huge, costly cathedrals and temples, therefore, a large Mosque would not be out of place.
It should be noted, I do not support Tabligui Jamaat and I do agree their previously proposed plan was “badly conceived” as stated by MPACUK. However, I am inclined to agree with the two commenters that say in reply; “Calling a mosque an “abomination” and slandering pious people of being “racists” will place you in a very precarious place in the eyes of Allah” “There’s a lot of innuendo and generalisation in this have-a-pop podcast. I don’t agree with a lot of what the Jamat does or teaches, but it has been the means for bringing people into Islam the world over and in the UK too. Who needs enemy’s when we have MPAC.” It is now accepted that the BNP is linked to the petition opposing the Mosque, which was apparently started by a ‘right-wing extremist’ blogger who has previously been identified as a perpetrator of racial hatred. Since of quarter of a million people appear to have signed this racist-linked petition aimed at stopping us having an extra place to pray, I have to wonder how many of the signaturies are racist or Islamophobic. Therefore I am surprised that MPACUK appear to be siding with the enemy, instead of taking the opportunity to educate the masses that such a Mosque would not “cause terrible violence and suffering”. MPACUK, stop serving a divide and rule strategy that only the BNP and Shaytan will benefit from.

I didnt think the pod cast was general, in fact it was very specific and asked valid question. When the Nikad was being attacked, and used to demonise the entire Muslim population where was the PR firm that TJ could obviously hire?
Will they allow sisters into the committee? Will they allow elections for locals to participate in, who are not part of TJ? Or will it be a racist mosque that only allows Gujaraties from balouch onto the committee? The abomination comment is valid, if the mosques serves nothing then the egoes of the proposers. There was nothing un-islamic about the manner of Zulfi's delivery, and for you to describe Allah's intentions and how Allah will Judge things puts you in a precarious place. Will no one has answer the questions that are raised in this podcast.

Just to put all you people right and Mr Zulfi Bukhari, Tabligh Jamat is non political go to their bayans they only talk about following sunnah of our beloved prophet (pbuh) and the sahabahs ways. T.J. is a worldwide movement not just based in the UK, there only purpose is to save the ummah from the fire of hell through learning, practising and propogating Deen. AS for the so called mega mosque the elders gave mashwerah not to build such a mosque as it is seen as too high profile espescially in the present atmosphere. T.J. does not want the mosque been built however, unfortunately some elders from the local community in East London are going against the mashwerah for their own reasons. Don't blame the work of Tabligh Jamat for weaknesses of some people who are linked with it's work but whatever reason want to follow their egoes.
T.J. does not wish or seek any publicity and they just want o get on with the biggest sunnah of our prophet (pbuh) and rectify ourselves and others so we can be saved from the fire of hell. As for Mr Bukhari you should get your facts right before you comment on such issues, just because people from the T.J. movement does not comment or reply to your misguided comments does not mean you can create discussions based on inaccurate information. Another thing Mpac messed up on, I guess we should be used it from an organisation which thrives on creating disunity amongst muslims and knocking any muslim groups besides their own.

Any Mosque (of any size) is good just so long as it isn't run by bearded Pakistani men wearing their totally out-of-place-in-Europe shalwar kameez and the silly North-West-Frontier-Province-leather-sandals! Many of them also insist on wearling their 'Ghalib' hats!
They can't speak English properly: they keep pronouncing 'decision' as 'disseeyan'. They hate/fear women and girls and often oppress them. They inter-marry so much that you can see deformity in their faces. They say that this or that is 'Sunnah', but forget that living outside Arabia is not Sunnah. The Prophet (pbuh) did not live in Europe, so living here isn't Sunnah (if you use the same rules i.e., whatever he did or said is Sunnah). Oh, and one other thing: practically ALL of the terrorists in the UK have been men of Pakistani origin. No Mosque, whatever its size, should be allowed unless women/girls are allowed equal access/control. No women: No Mosque! No argument.

To clarify our stance:
MPACUK are opposed to the Mega-Mosque being built (or in fact any Mosque being built) that does not allow women onto the committee, that is not democratic and is not accountable to the public. (The podcast elaborates on this.) This mega mosque may be opposed by people we may not traditionally get along with, but on this ONE issue we are in agreement – although for different reasons then they are. We have contacted Alan Craig and asked him to amend the article on his website to clearly indicate that we do not support his view of the Tablighi Jamaat sect.

Well, well, well,
MPACUK+Hypocrites+apostates+Neo-cons/Zionists and racists against Muslims building a Masjid! U see I’m no TJ nor some pacifist sufi and I wish to see reform in many or most Masjids in the country in how they are run and who they are run by but never would I ally with kaafirs, apostates and hypocrites against fellow Muslims – AND THIS IS PRECISELY THE ISSUE HERE! No matter what fancy “smokescreen” speech ur leader Zulfi Bukhari makes up (who’s probably a shi’ite) it is not going to hide the fact! This is about Al-Wala’ wa’l-Bara’ – We as Muslims have many issues and problems and many amongst us be they TJ or these Sufis or these weirdo Brelvis there are many issues that we wont like or agree with or wish to change – but the bottom line is they are our brothers of which in consequence they have rights over us which mandates a specific way of dealing with these issues - AMONGST us Muslims! What the heck are you allying with kuffar and hypocrites against them!? And out of all issues - working and striving against the establishment of a Masjid?!! Maybe they (TJ) could have used the money for something better maybe they could have used their resources better for the interests of Islam, etc etc etc BUT THE FACT is U are still working against the establishment of a masjid and ur allies are kaafirs, hypocrites and apostates!!!! “And who is more unjust than those who forbid that Allâh's Name be glorified and mentioned much (i.e. prayers and invocations, etc.) in Allâh's Mosques and strive for their ruin? It was not fitting that such should themselves enter them (Allâh's Mosques) except in fear. For them there is disgrace in this world, and they will have a great torment in the Hereafter” (Al-Baqarah 2:114) And what is even more pathetic is seeing some of the supportive comments left by ur cult like blind followers – who are so blind as usual they cant even analyze and see the issue in accordance to ISLAM!! Yep this has to be the last straw for me – it (mpacuk) started something as positive, a breath of fresh air a new thing in fulfilling something that Muslims were absent in, but slowly, slowly it has sadly led to this – MPACUK is nothing but a “Trojan Horse” which harbors an agenda which will inevitably hurt the Muslims in the long term – fancy emotional speeches and the good work in combating Zionism etc n the Media is nothing but a deceptive ploy to gather support and influence within out community in pursuit of their sectarian agenda in spreading a government sponsored Islam were a mega-mosque with Ed Hussein as the Imam is exactly what they want!!!

Are women allowed to 'glorify the name of Allah' in all the Mosques? Are women allowed to run the Mosques? No? Then these 'mosques' are nothing but bricks and and minarets, filled with shaitans in beards, and you and others who support them are not Muslims. No women, No mosque. Men have had their go, and look what a mess they have made of the Muslim world. Time to subjugate the men at every turn. Please don't call yourself a Muslim. You have also proved that by attacking MPAC. It is the only sane Muslim voice in a sea of Muslim stupidity. Why do you want to harm the Ummah?

We may have differences - but in this day and age it is not the right time to stir up sectarian hatred. thats what the zionists want. i urge you to take back your comments and not fall into a zionist trap.

MPACUK have never shied away from exposing the hypocrisy and special interests of the rich and powerful.
In this Podcast, the Mega Mosque and its proposers are
taken to task for building a 'white elephant' whilst the urgent needs of the Ummah are ignored and asks the questions 'If Tabligui
Jamaat want Muslims to support them, what are they willing to
do to gain that support?'
