Whatever we choose it should be on the basis of the benefit to London and its inhabitants. The Mayor and London Assembly have little or no impact upon national politics, but they do have an impact upon the issues that affect our daily lives. To use regional / local elections as a platform to protest international issues is a mistake because we end up with administrations that are less in interested in the realities of living in London and more interested in placating various communities external interests. There are too many important issues going on to allow our voices to be frittered away in pointless activity.

Tahira, you talk as if the 'loony left' (a term which I have not heard since the incredibly reactionary Thatcher era) is manipulating Muslims. Many Muslims are active in these so-called 'loony left' groups themselves (many are leading voices in these groups), as they see the mainstream parties as hypocritical and dangerous. Ken Livingstone for example is seen as a great anti-racist and opposer of imperialism, but it is people like him that are keeping people tied to his party - the very party that is responsible for more wars and killing of Muslims than we have seen in modern history! It is Ken that has stood solidly by the police, even saying that 'Al Qaeda must be laughing at us as as we pilorise the police that keep us safe'. That's something you'd expect to see in the tabloids, not something you'd expect from 'Red Ken' (or 'loony left Ken' as he used to be called, ironically).

The 'loony left' is growing precisely because so many people see through the Labour party now. 200,000 Labour members have left in the last few years, halving their membership. Those people certainly are not 'loony' but horrified by Labour's wars and stoking of racism and Islamophobia.

Obviously we don't want Boris in but unlike every other election we have TWO votes. Boris has no chance of winning on first votes only therefore if everyone gives Ken their second vote then he will be SAFE.

And really, you should be lucky that Lindsey German voters are not only giving Ken their second vote, but also encourging others to do this. There are many people - for example refik who has posted here - who will not vote Ken at all, and quite understandably too.

So really, Ken is lucky that those that oppose war can even bring themselves to vote for him as their second choice. Ken supporters should be encouraging this, not smearing those who are most active against war and racism.

I want to make it very clear Lindsey German is not standing for Respect. Respect (George Galloway) is backing Ken. But please remember just coz you vote Ken you don't need to vote for New Labour, who are the party of war. You will have 3 votes. For the Mayor vote Ken for all the good reasons above.
