Fiona Philips is pretty ignorant and nasty at times as can be seen in this interview where she repeats as fact the more crude depictions of Islam - she is precisely the reason why I avoid GMTV like the plague! Well done MPACUK - respect to you for braving that particular programme!

Ms Heseltine seemed very animated. Nerves? She made sense though, was open and genial, and I think she showed MPAC in a very positive light. Ms Khan's advocating official recognition of Imams is absolutely right also.

Nice to see such views on tabloid television. And yes Fiona Philips was offering a rather crude analysis, as most British media do when reporting on Muslim affairs or Islam.

Salaam Catherine,

Having seen some of your previous interviews have to say this was one of your best performances, well done.

Your arguments were put over clearly, concisely and you shone compared to the not so articulate sometimes-bumbling Ms Khan.

Good work keep it up.

Good to see Saira and Catherine putting forward their views.
However, I agree with Jennifer that perhaps because of nerves Catherine is a little animated, whilst the confident Saira needs to have more in-depth views otherwise she may be sidelined by future interviewers.

In England, Wales and N. Ireland (I believe) we live under English Law. In Scotland they live under Scottish Law. I believe that when laws are enacted for the whole of the UK they are incorporated into the two systems. Remember that N.I. is not part of Great Britain. I think there is actually no such thing as British Law. I may be wrong!!!

I apologise - Northern Ireland is governed by it's own common law.

So a (not even) runner up on a TV reality game (apprentice?) show has suddenly become an expert on sharia law and accordingly gets invited on to GMTV.

Are we that bad off for media spokespeople that they have to drag out saira khan when they need a newsbite?

Excellent work Catherine & MPACUK for stepping up!

Well done to the MPAC Spokeswoman - what a surprise and delight to see a Muslim woman speaking on behalf of the community!

I also find it very interesting that the loud voices from the so called self proclaimed practicing groups are so silent when the Shariah is attacked. Probably muttering somewhere about the evils of the Media.

Saira Khan is clearly putting herself forward as the 'good Muslim' (or 'modern' Muslim as Fiona Philips described her) willing to say 'yes sir no sir three bags full sir' to the establishment no matter what they throw at Muslims. The establishment (politicians/media) will then be able to use her as an example of how all 'good' Muslims should behave. And considering she is a 'reality TV star' from a crappy show that promotes ruthless profiteering, she is the perfect establishment lackey.

Saira lacked a little depth in knowledge but both girls had the guts to quickly stand up both for Islam and for Britain with their poise and their polished looks, and put to shame the hairy bumbling male freshies, who sound as if they are straight off the boat, and who constantly turn up on the screens.

William - NI not part of Great Britain? Since when? According to my passport it does...I'm suprised that hasn't made the front page of The Sun!

On a broader note re: Bristish law incorporating difference. Imilar to all laws, British law is open to interpretation. While cultural differences should be respected and understood, law should represent the very basis elements and ethics of nationhood, governance and personal interaction.

Catherine's interview was indeed very good when faced with typical armchair nationalism. However, I do not believe that recognising religious brands of thought into law really could work.

Is this the same Saira Khan who recently wrote a rather silly article in the Sun in which she totally disagreed with sharia law, incidently which puts you out of the pale of islam???

All i say is beware of people like saira who say one thing to one set of people and change their tune for another.

Sharia law is a bit more complex than saying i divorce you 3 times, also many non -muslim hark on about democracy and equality, quite clearly this is not afforded to muslims. I beleive the jewish beth din laws have been operating for over 100 years in the UK, all we say is this be accorded to muslims in terms of marriage, inheritance, etc.

Mr Bunbury,

Oh dear, oh dear! NI is not part of GB. Have another look at your passport and you will see that it says "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland". GB is the largest island in the British Isles and includes England, Wales and Scotland but not NI - hence the reason it is mentioned separately. Obviously with your knowledge you must be a Sun reader. Also as pointed out, but apparently too difficult to grasp, Great Britain and Northern Ireland are governed by three different legal systems not one!

Mr Bunbury,

Northern Ireland is not part of Great Britain and I am astonished that you think it is. Have another look at your passport and you will see that it says The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. GB is the largest island in the British Isles and includes England, Scotland and Wales. The island of Ireland contains The Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. As you are on the internet and, presumably, have a search engine, I am surprised that you didn't check this before demonstrating your ignorance for all to see.

Why is MPACUK still allowing demonising the entire Talebani group? I sugest you read the letter from Mullah Omar and not the brit propaganda PRESSTITUTES. IT will as hell educate your disgusting arrogance & ignorance.

I love it when idiots go on about the women's right in Muslim lands and than become totally blind, deaf and dumb to the RIGHTS OF MUSLIM GROUP UNDER BRIT/US/WESTERN OCCUPATION
Many women were alive prior to the western terrorist attacks in Irak, Afghanistan, Somalia .....

Many Iraki women had joys knowing they were pregnant prior to the decades of bombing, being used as US/Israeli guinea pigs for arms testing ......
Search the web for DU

why is it that this never bothers them?
the first time I watch MPACUK -the lady comes along highly animated. Perhaps the beared Raza Nadim is better suited.

Since when has slaughtering an entire population on a lie by a government considered they hate our values".

As regarding homosexuality is Islam the only religion against it?
Catholic church is against it.

Why is their the male bashing on MPACUK?
Isn't it the same as female bashing?
