Well done MPACUK! I couldn't agree more - it's not a big deal if for example we need to do a nikkah ceremony and separately register the marriage at the registry office. But stirring this tabloid hysteria about Taliban style regimes supposedly being imposed on Britain is SCARY. And I'm so glad some Muslim groups like MPACUK were out there on the media trying to dispel the tabloid myths.

excuse me but where in that video clip were mpacuk 'dispelling the tabloid myths'. all thay were doing was running as fast as they possibly could from the heat trying to push the media spot light from the muslim community back to the Bishop.
The fact of the matter is when things like this happen we need to seize the opportunity and educate our non-muslim friends/neighbors etc. Just like Prof. Tariq Ramadan was doing on newsnight yesterday. We need to come to the table with constructive intellectual debate/discourse, NOT run away from the debate claiming we have more important things to worry about. At the end of the day the small things add up. Never belittle a good action! Furthermore Islam is not 1 dimensional, there is always room for muslims within our community to specialise in anything they see as important, whether it be social, economic or political in nature.

excuse me but where in that video clip were mpacuk 'dispelling the tabloid myths'. — Abu Bakr al-InjaliziyeI was watching News 24 yesterday and the MPACUK representative on that got a lot longer than this few second ITV clip and managed to explain some of the issue about what Shariah actually is in a way that I think most open-minded people would understand. Why not actually fund them so they do even better PR for Islam rather than just moaning from the sidelines? We give thousands of pounds to mosques but I didn't see them doing anything to defend Islam yesterday.

MPAC should continue putting forward PR people who will be seen to be presentable rather than the woolly Blackbeard wonders speaking broken English that the Press want to represent Islam with.
This reminds me of the situation after Israel had attacked the Palestinains some years ago. The Palestinians sent some one in Arab dress speaking broken English in a heavy foreign accent, who was unable to get his point across. The Isrealis sent a Professor in western suit. Common sense. The world is playing a dirty game of chess with us. Play it well.

Phil Woolas at it again...Please:
Quote
Phil Woolas is attacking Muslims again. This time in true Israeli tradition he is talking about Muslim babies and exaggerating the statistics about birth deficits .
Phil Woolas, the disgrace of Oldham , often makes unacceptable remarks about younger Muslims whether it is university students or newborn babies. Mr "Looney Tunes" Woolas has also makes very retarded suggestions about how to deal with radicalism amongst Muslims. No wonder his remarks are given so much importance by racist publications like the Times . I wonder where Mr Woolas got his mental illnesses from? Does he even know who his own father is? It is about time Woolas was put before a Muslim court in Oldham for spreading lies and hatred .

This has been a good week for common sense in Britain. The loony left and liberal wings of the establishment have been told where to get off. Qaradawi, the fanatic cleric invitee of the Mayor of London has been banned from entering Britain and the future for Sharia law in Britain looks considerably less brighter. What is interesting though in both of these troublesome cases is that Ken Livingstone and Rowan Williams are native-born white Britons and not Muslims. Considering the uproar they have both caused, I think if I were a British Muslim I’d be a little hesitant about having ‘friends’ like these. Not the best of PR!

I so agree with you. For years I've been angered by the way the various Muslim 'spokesmen'/'representatives' keep appearing in the media, who can't even speak idiomatic English. The problem is that these bearded fools (they think that the only thing that is 'Sunnah' is to have a beard) are more interested in power and publicity than in serving the Ummah. I think that unless you were born in the UK, or went to school in the UK, you should not speak to the media on behalf of UK Muslims. Also its time to debunk the oft-repeated myth that 'this is a Christian country': its isn't and never has been! The last time that it got close to being a 'priestocracy', elderly women were accused of being witches and burned to death in public for no other reason but that they were old and considered usless, and a burden. Britain is, and always has been, a pagan country. And that's another reason why Hindus feel so at home here. No one feels threatened if someone offers food to a luridly-painted animist statue, and bows and protrates before it. Its what the ancestors of Britons used to do anyway. As for Jews/Christians: they too have 'Shariah'. It's called The Ten Commandments. Do they follow them? Do they heck!

LOL, maybe I was a bit hasty in my above comment sister Tahira, however that does not detract from the body of my message, which you kindly over looked.
In my opinion MPACUK's heart is in the right place but some times the rough and tumble tactics is not indicative of the discourse I would like to see taking place within our community. wallahu alam Why not actually fund them so they do even better PR for Islam rather than just moaning from the sidelines? — TahiraLOL. 'Sidelines'? A presumption to the say the least.

Exactly!! Very good point and something that has not been emphasised enough in all of this. @Colin, FYI, elements of Sharia law are ALREADY in place in British society, as well as some aspects of Jewish law. When a couple marry, they do so by Islamic law first, likewise when there is a divorce, it is taken up with the Islamic family court. This is also the case with other family/social issues. If you wish to express your views on this matter, than I would strongly recommend, getting the facts in order beforehand - it is what is commonly known as an education.

Colin,
Yes it has been a good week for commonsense. Now bring on the exclusion of all Zionists from UK. In particular the UK Govt should declare the Waffen-IDF a terrorist organisation. It is time we started persuading the Jewish population of the UK that there is no longer any need for a Jewish State; that Zionism is a defunct concept, just as communisn has become. With all the extremely strict anti-semitism laws, and the Jews having the protection of the Race Relations Act, we are happy to support them and celebrate their invaluable presence in the UK, apoligise to them for the wrong done to them in our historical past. But Zionism? No. That was a wish whose time has gone. It casued nothing but death, destruction and wars. Huh! 'Shalom' indeed!!

I could not agree more with K. Urban.
We have in the Muslim community backward people who think that by having a pirates beard, and getting their part 'chopped' makes them fully qualified both as Muslims and also to speak on behalf of and represent Islam. This is not going to solve our problems so get real.
