The irony is that the bishop has probably drove through an area and seen numerous people coming out of a mosque and decided to label the area as a no go area.
I work in Birmingham and I live in Birmingham - such areas don't exist. Yes, there are areas where crime is high but that is an issue the Bishop needs to take with his Anglo-Crusader Chief Constable who is good at buttering up the figures - now why doesn't the media look at that?

I used to live in Normanton in Derby, I never felt fearful or threatened. I can't answer for other areas now, but I don't see Muslim communities as no-go areas.
I didn't feel threatened in the Middle East either (apart from Saudi, but that's a different kettle of fish), but I have felt threatened in our local city centre, which has only a tiny Muslim population. The Bishop I feel, has let his upper class beliefs dictate his fears. Silly really.

as someone who grew up in birmingham i can tell you that people like peter are the racists.
they are the ones who call anyone who goes into kingstanding and northfield go home paki, they are the type responsible for beating up asians when they are alone. the problem for people like peter is that my generation which is called the thrid generation would not take the crap anymore and gave as good as they got. now people like peter who are the racists and like to abuse people have a hard time getting away with their attitude. otherwise if he is talking about yobs then that is a two way street.

Not usre about all Peter's comments or Shans for that. It is quite well known in Brum that places like Alum Rock are no-go areas for whites (but thats been the case for some time - in fact the only whiteys you see that way are Police then they drive through at speed). How times change.

There are no go areas in London too, where if a kid who doesnt belong to a certain gang or territory will get killed because he went to see his nan.

Dear Peter,
Whilst i understand what you are trying to say in that in some areas you as a white person may feel threatened by the amount of muslims or people of asian origin. However, there are far more white no go areas in Birmingham. I as a muslim woman in the veil (headscarf) feel threatened, i was shopping in solihull i was abused verbally. I have a friend who wears nikab and she has been shouted and threatened whilst going to university. So you see on the whole i think there are far more no go areas for muslims esp. muslim women. I would like to add the reason why there maybe so many of a certain ethinic minority in one area is not because muslims are creating no go areas but because of the governments own dispersal policy for asylum seekers. So that asylum seekers coming in from a certain country are all given accomdation in a specific area probably the are with the worst housing and rodent infestation and then they claim that we have created no go areas...

With Bishop Michael Nazir-Ali's remarks about no-go areas in the newspapers recently we decided to interview members of the public to see if they had heard of the issue and whether they agreed with the Bishop.
