BREAKING NEWS: Public Outraged at Blatant BBC pro-Israel Bias Print E-mail
Wednesday, 06 February 2008

mpac_breaking_news.jpgWhere was the headline coverage of the death of Amir Shaher 'Abdallah al-Yazji, 8 year-old resident of Gaza city who died on Monday 19th November 2007 in Gaza city, following a delay in receiving medical care, due to Israel's collective punishment?

MPACUK issued an Action Alert about shocking BBC bias in reporting on Israel-Palestine. Alhamdulillah, many members of the public are taking up their Islamic obligation to help their brothers and sisters and making the effort to take just 5 minutes to complain to the BBC and demand fair and balanced reporting.

Have you sent your complaint to the BBC yet? Please see the original Action Alert with details of where and how to complain.

Please remember, when making your complaint by phone (tel. 08700 100 222):

1. Request a call log number.

2. Ask for a news Producer at the BBC to call you back to explain their bias.

Jazak'Allah khair - some of you have emailed MPACUK copies of your complaints to the BBC and here's a selection:

“Where was the headline coverage of the killing of Khaldeyeh Ahmad Hamdan a-Talbani 39 year-old resident of al-Maghazi Refugee Camp, Deir al-Balah district, killed on 30.12.2007 in Erez (Industrial Zone), North Gaza district, by gunfire? (Did not participate in hostilities when killed. Additional information: Killed when soldiers opened fire at pilgrims from Mecca waiting at the checkpoint. see B'Tselem website)

Where was the headline coverage of the death of Amir Shaher 'Abdallah al-Yazji, 8 year-old resident of Gaza city, died on 19.11.2007 in Gaza city, following a delay in receiving medical care? (Additional information: suffered from meningitis, and died after being refused, for more than a week, entry into Israel. see B'Tselem website)” - Salma

“As a contributor to the TV license I expect to see objective and impartial journalism, what I saw tonight was neither. I expect you to put the conflict into context and explain to the viewers the facts including;

1.The number of Palestinian and the number of Israeli civilians killed since Israel enforced Collective Punishment on Gaza.

2. To provide viewers with the facts about Israel's actions vis-a-vis Gaza i.e. the legal status of Israel's actions

3. To put the wider conflict into the context of the continued illegal occupation and illegal expansion of settlements on the Occupied Palestinian Territories. I look forward to your response” - Tariq

“The incident was reported in a way which almost entirely lacked context, in terms of Israel's actions and the suffering of the Palestinian population. There was emotive reference to Israeli fears, but no reporting of the feelings of Palestinian civilians living under a de-facto siege in Gaza. I also felt that Israeli perspectives have been reported more unquestioningly and given more credibility than Palestinian perspectives. For instance, the BBC should refer to the evidence that independent human rights groups and experts on International Law objectively support the Palestinian perspective on Israel's policy of collective punishment.” - Aisha

So you think the media is biased against Palesinians?

Remember Chris Hedges's article in Harper's October 2001 magazine, "Gaza Diary," accusing Israeli troops of goading Palestinian children and murdering them for sport. This was later exposed as a hoax, but the article continues to be widely circulated in anti-Israeli media.

ABC's Nightline covering the March 27 2002 suicide bombing in a Netanya hotel. This reduced the Israeli dead and wounded to mere statistics, while giving Arab spokesmen free rein to portray the Palestinians as the real victims of terror attacks. Most Israeli victims are a result of Palestinian terrorism. Most Palestinian casualties are killed with weapons in their hands as a result of participation in violence.

Words are often chosen by reporters that bias the impression that news consumers get from the account. For example, Palestinian terrorist killers are often called "militants". An Israeli anti-terrorist military operations are called "invasions" or "incursions".

The term "occupied territories" is almost always used to describe the West Bank and Gaza, even though under the Oslo peace process Israel has withdrawn so that over 90% of the Arab Palestinian population has been governed by the Palestinian Authority for years.

Even "West Bank" is misleading since that area that was historically Jewish Judea and Samaria until Jordan invaded and captured it during Israel's 1948 War of Independence.

News organizations have largely accepted the basic propaganda of the Palestinian Arabs. They accept "facts" that are not facts, probably out of ignorance of the history of the region.

I think you should take a cold critical look at your own culture. The Palestinian Authority (PA) in fact, all Arab regimes , are undemocratic and bear no sense of responsibility to protect freedom of the press. Censorship is routine.

In the electronic media, the Voice of Palestine radio station has been primarily used for anti-Semitic, anti-Israel incitement

Palestinian police closed down Hebron's Nawras TV for discussing issues involved in the Palestinian teachers' strike, and the Palestinian Authority's General Intelligence called Khalid Amayreh in for interrogation about the content his Hebron newspaper, Akhbar al-Khalil. When Mr. Amayreh cited press freedom guarantees and questioned the legality of this interrogation, they laughed: "Where do you think you are, Switzerland?"

If this is true (and considering the Al Dura hoax, that's a big "if") then I'm sure everyone is sad about the unnecessary death of an innocent. But before you start auto-blaming the Jews, look at the circumstances.

When you consider that Gaza is ruled by a group who are sworn to wipe out Israel and kill all the Jews. When you consider that suicide bombings ensures such tight security. When you consider how Palestinian terrorists have used women, children and mentally impaired people as human bombs. And when you consider that, every day, Gaza is being used to fire rockets at Israel don't you think it's a bit much to moan at Israel for not providing (free) health care quickly enough.

I can't think of any other country that gives free healthcare to the civilian population of their enemies during war time.

If the Palestinians stopped firing rockets and launching suicide bombs and started building hospitals and power stations instead, we wouldn't be talking about this.

Andy and Davie so who are the Terrorist and who are victims! if u say Zionist are Victims than u must say Nazis were the Victims!

"I don't know something called International Principles. I vow that I'll burn every Palestinian child (that) will be born in this area. The Palestinian woman and child is more dangerous than the man, because the Palestinian child's existence infers that generations will go on, but the man causes limited danger. I vow that if I was just an Israeli civilian and I met a Palestinian I would burn him and I would make him suffer before killing him. With one hit I've killed 750 Palestinians (in Rafah in 1956). I wanted to encourage my soldiers by raping Arabic girls as the Palestinian women is a slave for Jews, and we do whatever we want to her and nobody tells us what we shall do but we tell others what they shall do." Ariel Sharon, current Prime Minister, in an interview with General Ouze Merham, 1956

We must use terror, assassination, intimidation, land confiscation, and the cutting of all social services to rid the Galilee of its Arab population." David Ben-Gurion , May 1948, to the General Staff.

"Israel should have exploited the repression of the demonstrations in China, when world attention focused on that country, to carry out mass expulsions among the Arabs of the territories." Benjamin Netanyahu: Speech at Bar-Ilan University, 1989

"We must expel Arabs and take their places." David Ben Gurion, 1937, Ben Gurion and the Palestine Arabs, Oxford University Press, 1985.

"We have to kill all the Palestinians unless they are resigned to live here as slaves." Chairman Heilbrun of the Committee for the Re-election of General Shlomo Lahat, the mayor of Tel Aviv, October 1983.

"We must use terror, assassination, intimidation, land confiscation, and the cutting of all social services to rid the Galilee of its Arab population." Israel Koenig, "The Koenig Memorandum"

"The Palestinians are like crocodiles, the more you give them meat, they want more".... Ehud Barak, Prime Minister of Israel at the time - August 28, 2000. Reported in the Jerusalem Post August 30, 2000

"The Palestinians" would be crushed like grasshoppers ... heads smashed against the boulders and walls." Israeli Prime Minister Menahim Begin in a speech to Jewish settlers New York Times April 1, 1988

Palestinians can build all the infrastructure thay want, only to see it destroyed by the zionazis. Remember the collective punishment meted out to a certain race in the Warsaw Ghettos, well thay hav'nt learnt anything.

Zak, you might care to read the 1968 audit of the West Bank and Gaza conducted by the Israeli Comptroller General after the 6 Day War, and then compare that with the condition of the West Bank and Gaza in 1990. Whatever the Israelis did as occupiers it was not the destruction of the Palestinian infrastructure - in fact the absolute opposite. At almost every level there was a substantial improvement in the quality of life for the Palestinians during that period. The exception was in political expression which was repressed by the PLO's policy of Sumud.
Yes the Israelis have committed some terrible acts and many hate the Palestinians and Muslims and Christians in general. But this is hardly surprising given that their history and the violence directed towards them. Perhaps the only surprising things is that the Israelis have not committed more atrocities and been even more inhumane. Compare them with any number of ethnic / sectarian groups aroudn the world and their behaviour begins to look exemplary.
The chaos that is Palestine today is the product of the two strands of Palestinian nationalism, both of which seek to return the region to the political / social condition of the early 19th century.
