Palestinian's Retaliate for Recent Massacres Print E-mail
Monday, 26 June 2006
Untitled Document
A deadly attack on an Israeli Army post near the Gaza Strip on Sunday was a message to Israel to stop killing civilians, the groups behind the assault said in a statement Sunday.

"This operation was a clear and final message to the enemy leaders: They need to keep civilians far from their hateful bullets and leave the battle between the heroes of the resistance and the [Israeli] soldiers," the joint statement said.

In the past two weeks, 14 Palestinian civilians, including a pregnant woman and young children, were killed by errant Israeli air strikes. Eight people were also killed on a Gaza beach, seven of whom belonged to a single family, by an Israeli shell.

Hamas lawmaker Musheer al-Masry hailed the pre-dawn assault, which was claimed by the ruling Hamas movement's military wing, the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, the radical Popular Resistance Committees (PRC) and the previously unknown Army of Islam group.

"We consider this operation part of the natural response to the Zionist crimes, especially after the series of killings of children, women, old men and whole families in Gaza," Masry said. "It is the right of our people to defend themselves with all the means available."

An Israeli officer and soldier were killed and one soldier was feared kidnapped in the attack on an army outpost near the Kerem Shalom crossing between Israel and the Gaza Strip.

Two Palestinian fighters were also killed in the assault.

The assault occurred at about 5:30 a.m. (0230 GMT) when about eight Palestinian militants reached the army post through a tunnel and fired anti-tank rockets at the unit protecting the Kerem Shalom crossing point, a military source said.

Hamas and the Popular Resistance Committees denied any knowledge of the kidnapped soldier.

"We do not have any knowledge of a kidnapped soldier," said Masry. "This is a matter connected to the military apparatus. As the political wing we don't have knowledge of this."

"We do not have a kidnapped soldier nor do we have the body of a soldier," added Abu Mujahid, a spokesman for the PRC.

Mujahid said the attack was also in response to this month's killing of PRC leader Jamal Abu Samhadana in an Israeli air strike.

Israel vowed to avenge any harm done to the soldier, identified as 20-year-old Gilad Shavit.

It was the largest attack in the volatile border area since Israel pulled troops and settlers out of the impoverished coastal strip last summer, ending a 38-year occupation.

Israeli Defense Minister Amir Peretz vowed a strong Israeli retaliation if Shavit were not released unharmed.

"We will take revenge against anyone who injures the soldier, including their leaders," Peretz told reporters.

Shavit's bloodstained bulletproof vest was found not far from the scene of the attack, a military source said.

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert blamed Abbas and the Hamas-led Palestinian government for the attack.

Israel tanks, troops and Apache combat helicopters stormed into southern Gaza in response to search for the missing soldier and investigate the tunnel used by the attackers.

"This attack was carried out and spearheaded by senior members of the Hamas and authorized by the party's leadership," an army spokesman told AFP. "The [army] holds the Palestinian Authority and the democratically elected Hamas government responsible for the attack and the fate of the missing soldier."

Abbas, meanwhile, locked in talks with Hamas aimed at ending deadly political feuding between the rival Palestinian factions, condemned the attack.

"We have always warned against the danger of certain groups or factions leaving the national consensus and carrying out operations for which the Palestinian people will always have to pay the price," the president said in a statement.

Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni urged Abbas to act swiftly to release the soldier.

"This is an opportunity for Abu Mazen (Abbas) to prove how serious his intentions are. Israel expects him to act immediately to return the kidnapped soldier to Israel and he has the necessary military means to do so," she said. The latest flare-up came as Hamas and Fatah are engaged in talks aimed at halting a deadly power struggle.

In the attack, militants tossed hand grenades into one tank, killing an officer and the soldier, and wounding four others.

At the same time, Palestinians fired a salvo of homemade rockets from the northern Gaza Strip against neighboring Israeli areas. - Agencies

Doing a great job of "focusing on non-violent jihad," lads.

BTW, if this raid was in retaliation for the beach explosion, how did the Palis dig a 300 meter tunnel in under a week? Perhaps the IDF needs to invest in more "Rachel Corrie" model bulldozers.

I am somewhat cheered, however, by the Palis actually taking on soldiers for a change, rather than grannies.

Couldn't agree more. Terrorists are committing atrocities like this because they currently perceive the Olmert government has being too weak. What is needed is a massive sustained Israeli strike on all military and government installations and buildings in Gaza, regardless of collateral damage and casualties. If this does not work, then target medical and Hamas run welfare services. These are also legitimate targets. People say such mass bombing won't work and is inhuman, but it worked in Dresden, Hiroshima and Beruit, saving countless lives on both sides.

How does it work then? You proudly boast about HAMAS killings, which, like the suicide bombers, are done intentionally. The Israelis, however badly they aim their bombs, try to avoid civilian deaths. You take pride in death and report this with cheer- more Israelis killed, great.Do you think Allah, Peace be upon Him, would approve? You know the answer.

The Nazis conquered Austria, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Denmark, Norway, Holland, Belgium, France, Yugoslavia and Greece, and had also bombed Britain and occupied 500,000 square miles of Soviet territory.

(Also, the West Germans post-WWII didn't dare revolt against the Anglo-Americans, as they'd be throwing themselves into Stalin's jaws.)

The Japs occupied Taiwan, southern Sakhalin, Korea, Manchuria, large parts of China, Indochina, Thailand, Burma, the Philippines, most of Indonesia and many Pacific islands.

I don't see any non-Muslim countries groaning beneath a brutal Islamist occupation...

Hamas Kills Soldiers, Israel Kil: Quote

The need of the hour is a swift and painful death of the captured Israeli which should hopefully be televised on Al-Jazeera and on the internet as an example to other Israeli soldiers.

That is the only lesson that the Israeli murderers who have declared an open season on Palestinian civilians since Hamas won the elections, need to learn.

Trying to use that soldier as a "bargaining chip" as the Zionist press and using him as a means of procuring incarcerated innocent Muslim women and children and expecting that the Zionist butchers will show even a dint of humanity is meaningless ....

Enough of the racist hate tripe. The word is Palestinians not "Palis"

You show you true violent colours now don't you. You talk about targetting civilians and welfare centres. You also tak about Hiroshima etc as being a good thing. You must be sick.

Finally the world can learn that Israel and its supporters are the agressive murdering, extreme fanatics not the other side.

The zionist fith columinists in this country need to be held account for their continued support of the facist zionist regime. The zionazi regime has openly called for the destruction of palestine, to destroy their legitimately elected government.

The likes of the british board of governers, need to stand up and condemn zioniaza aggression and policy and distance themselves from Israel.

And we need to force a statement from our government on their views of Israel threatening to wipe out palestine and topple the democratically elected government of Palestine.

It is a shame that some sick people use this site to express their sick opinions, if your women and children were bombed or your parents and siblings killed for no reason, you would not be so trigger happy. I hope you experiance the suffering that millions of innocent people are suffering due to the wisdom of inhumane dogs from Isreal, America and people like the solicitor on this forum.

Anyway well done Hamas, its about time they targeted the IDF, the IDF kill innocent civillians, women and children along with peace activists. Its strange how we see pictures of the missing soldier, how about we start showwing pictures of the dead Palestinian children and wounded civilians. double standards as ever.

Your having a laugh aren't you? Your backward Islamists have brought the US right into the heart of the Muslim World. No one with any sense would have attacked the US just when it was the only superpower on earth and had just defeated a brutal Soviet Union. There is no chance of a Pali state now. Israel can quite literally attack whenever it likes, because a terrorist state is being set up in its midst.Iran will never get nuclear weapons. Israel and the US will not allow it and China and Russia are only stalling to see how far they can push the World's only superpower. Israel will now launch a military invasion of Gaza. If Allah is the only person you can turn to, there's not much hope. He deserted you long ago. If other people occupy your lands it's your own fault for making it the world's most dangerous and backward reason.Perhaps more Israeli missiles and military might is needed to knock some sense in you.

AA, my point was why should Palestinians (who don't even fully control their own territory), be treated like the Nazis and the Japs (who had brutally subjugated large foreign territories?)

"I don't see any non-Muslim countries groaning beneath a brutal Islamist occupation..." what about the Muslim ones themselves where international human "rights" and religious freedoms are adhered to? Also maybe its because they couldn't organise the proverbial 'piss-up in a brewery'.

Interesting comment about the tunnel in under a week by the way Solicitr.

"You also tak about Hiroshima etc as being a good thing. You must be sick." not a good thing; a necessity.

"The need of the hour is a swift and painful death of the captured Israeli which should hopefully be televised on Al-Jazeera" Oh brilliant what a well though out position. I expect you also think all people who find HAMAS absolutely abhorant should be lined up and shot most likely have their throat slit.

"Finally the world can learn that Israel and its supporters are the agressive murdering, extreme fanatics not the other side." wow thats an informed opinion ain't it? Perhaps you should look up the Six day war?

"The zionist fith columinists in this country need to be held account for their continued support of the facist zionist regime." More bombings on the public transport system???? "The zionazi regime has openly called for the destruction of palestine" Again you could do with a history lesson. Look up the Six Days War and see who the aggressors were. Also who has continually called for a two state solution? Who has continued not to recognise Israel?

"It is a shame that some sick people use this site to express their sick opinions" and in the same breath "I hope you experiance the suffering that millions of innocent people are suffering due to the wisdom of inhumane dogs from Isreal" Great.

"Mashallah, I pray that more American and British soldiers are targeted in Iraq and Afghanistan," Well you know where the door is. Go and join them.

So what has yahweh done to help its "folllwers" sixty years ago, as your prayers folloed by your deeds show what you really are.

What did exactly?? The Jews? Thats what Hitler thought. Do you agree with him?

"The strategic use of neutron boms on settler regimes will bring instant relief to billions of people worldwide, followed by the deportation, some say naked to Iraq for the local to get their revenge, not a bad idea."

All right but I think some of the British public would prefer....

"The strategic use of atom bombs on Islamic regimes will bring instant relief to billions of people worldwide. Followed by the deportation of their supporters some say naked (dunno about naked) to Iraq so they can join the resistance (insurgants)."

"So what has Yahweh done to help HIS "folllwers" sixty years ago."

Well what about the winning of the 2nd World War????????. The re-establishment of Israel???? Please engage brain before writing you intolerant clap trap.
