But MOST importantly, make everyone realise that the vast majority of Muslims don't sign-up for the Islamist Jihadist philosophy and just want to live their lives and love their families.

To all non-muslims...ask yourself this: How many muslim people do you personally know, either through work or your social life?...and how many of those muslims actually do you see practising Islam (i.e. pray 5 times a day, give charity, fast, kindness towards others, etc)?...and of those practising muslims, how many do you know want to blow up westerners, destroy your way of life, and impose their doctrine on you, all because their relegion apparently tells them to?

Muslims are demonised in some areas of the press. My girlfriend gets abuse shouted at her by van drivers when she goes out wearing a headscarf. Has it always been this way in the UK? Has it got worse? Why has it got worse? There are no excuses for the kind of racist abuse she gets. I am loathe to say 'but' at this point...BUT, how is it that the 'uneducated', shall we say, have it fixed in their mind that headscarf=terrorist? I know what doesn't help: organisations doing the Islamists work here by coming up with Islamist apologetics constantly. Campaigns to free the teacher were only done for media relations reasons. There are not enough organisations of the 'vast majority of peace-loving muslims' seen to be countering the disastrous effects of people like Abdul Bari and Bunglawallah. The public only sees these types on TV doing the Islamists PR work. When someone does speak up like Ed Hussein, or here the noble Mashfiq, they get roundly abused by their own.
In my opinion there are Muslim organisations who want to see trouble made for other muslims because it quickens the confrontation they want to see. Soemtimes MPACUK does this too.

When you say 'you' are sick of being demonised in the media, I think you mean all Muslims. I've yet to see ANY media article, be it tabloid, broadsheet, radio or TV that claims ALL Muslims are demons! (demons being a metaphor obviously and not literal.) MPAC, being politically motivated body, makes it's adherents Islamists.
It's just such a tired cliche that again and again and again You Islamists want to shoot the messenger's rather than the perpetrators! Muslims are not treated worse than dogs. The problem muslims have is trust. How can anyone trust someone that is identified from a community that appears 'alien', and wants to do harm. There are racists in this country, agreed, but not just white racists I am afraid. What the muslim community and its 'leaders' need to do is show the rest of the country that muslims are part of Britain and friends with non-muslims. You're right it's not racist it's prejudice. The same type of prejudice as that committed against homosexuals or people with disabilities, neither disabled people or homosexual peopls are a race but no one doubts that discrimination, abuse and violence takes place against both groups. Just as that type of discrimination is unacceptable so too is discrimination against Muslims.

It's easy to make such comments unless you're part of the group that's being demonised/unfairly targeted. The fact is there is a problem as there is an elemnt within the media that is hell bent on sensationalising all issues related to Muslims.

Let me give you an example, when Gillian Gibbons was under arrest in Sudan one of the evening London papers that gets distributed free outside tube stops ran the story on it's front page for 4 consecutive days and the tone of the story focused almost entirely on the violent threats being shouted in Sudan and dedicated a couple of lines to efforts by the Muslim community in Britian to free Ms Gibbons.

Then when she was finally released, rather than triumphantly running the story on its front page the same paper has relegated the story of her release to page 6, whilst the other free London paper had it on its front page.

When you ask "how many Muslims do you know" I find the question completely irrelevant and I none of us has any requirement to 'understand' Muslims or Islam.

I would bet that MORE people "understand" Islam and Muslims than they do Judaism and Jews.

People are ONLY concerned at what threatens them and what might affect their every-day normality.

If Muslims bomb the transport system on 7/7 and kill 52 people , maim 700. If there is almost a conveyor belt of terrorism related convictions and trials and if there are terrorist acts and beheadings across the World - then people only want to know about what threatens them BECAUSE it threatens them.

Hence lots of media interest. We are fascinated by the idea that someone demands to be a hairdresser in a trendy crop shop while insisting on wearing a hijab. We find it strange that a Muslim salesman should complain that the sales incentive is a crate of wine.

These are just two incidents that will arouse comment ion the media which you will perceive as negative and which we will perceive as an assault on our status quo.

Look at how well the Jews have integrated into British society and see if you can come close. Because what you need to aim for is to accommodate the way it is and not the way you would like it to be.

I do NOT agree with demonisation of any group. Neither do I agree with a minority group continually pushing the boundaries of what we all find unacceptable or counter-culture.
