Teddies take protest to Sudanese Embassy! Print E-mail
Sunday, 02 December 2007

MPACUK and Emel successfully organised and delivered a demonstration outside the Sudanese Embassy yesterday.

The call to action was last minute!

The topic was controversial for some!

The weather was bitterly cold!

But our commitment was firm!

Our demand – “Free, Free Gillian!”, “Let her go, let her go, let Gillian go!”

Well done MPAC! Everyone agrees that this jail sentence is an injustice against a teacher who obviously had no intention of insulting our Prophet (pbuh). I'm so glad that you've succeeded in getting that message across via the media. (And it's gone some way to counteract the headlines about bloodthirsty Muslim mobs in Sudan). Let's pray the Sudanese authorities listen to British Muslims on this.

It is extremley distressing that the "teddy" affair seems to be giving press in the UK the green light to publish and broadcast a deluge of insults to the Prophit SAW. The press seem intent on communal punishment of muslims and deliberatley insulting Islam for the actions of the Sudanese. Maybe we need protest against whats happenning in the UK, or on the other hand maybe protests by muslims to defend their beliefs and rights are seen as protests by extremists!

You bunch of jokers. Why are acting on the biased reporting of this case. Nobody has the right to equate the Prophet saw with a Teddy or any other toy. Obviosly the Sudaneese will act harshly to any Britain anyway since Brown advocated sanctions against Sudan last month. Better not be be used to do the dirty work of the British.

Tahira how can you be so sure she is a teacher and not a preacher or even a missionary.

I don't suppose you have heard some of the stories of how missionries try to convert muslim children through lies and deceipt, especially in poor countries, such as turning off an engine of a bus and asking muslim school children to push the bus invovking the name of allah to make it start - obviously the driver only starts the engine when they are asked to push it invoking the name of jesus.

You should not believe everything you read and hear just like the media wanted everyone to beleive it was a "naive" mistake when there was absolutley no evidence to say that it was.

Similarly there was no evidence to say that she had been consigned to a "hell hole" that the media wanted us to believe.

Hell holes are places like gutanamo bay and abu ghraib. I don't see the islam haters in the media trying to manipulate public opinion on their behalf do you?

Ruth Kelly in a speech this year said that part of British (and Western) culture is the recognition that people might say things you disagree with but the response should be debate and not threats of violence (as in the Cartoon protests).

We have a free press, which is obviously strange to people who might come from Islamist based countries, but I'd like to think this is one reason people love living in the UK instead of Saudi Arabia.

By all means point-out that you might be offended by what you read but be assured we will continue to keep ourselves free for your benefit and our benefit. Perhaps you should use your democratic means to complain to the newspapers and media. I am sure you will get a fair hearing. George Galloway program is bound to give you every sympathy.

There are three sides to a coin, unless your coin is only two dimensional.

Only some of our left-wing media can be used to Spin it the way you would like but they just get viewed as people with a weird agenda, out-of-sync with the majority of the UK. I submit that 70% of people in the UK are scathing about The Sudan and its their right to do so.

There is NO positive Spin on a teacher sent to prison for 15 days for taking the name of one of her schoolchildren as the name of a Teddy Bear. It is obvious that MPAC UK and many Muslim organiasations agree, to their credit.

Err, cos you can't produce a shred of evidence. And I value the concept of innocent until proven guilty - and the only thing she's been proven to have done is allow the kids to name the bear after a little boy in the class. 15 days for that is an injustice, and we should stand up against all injustice. If we as Muslims are silent in the face of any injustice we're betraying Islam.

Like the fair hearing the millions and I got when they protested against the War In Iraq against Muslims. We where told the protests where misguided because of the Weapons of MD.

Democracy functions best for some, the ancient Greeks ( the founders of western civilisation) had democracy and slavery. More recently The 1930's democratic Germany got Hitler, very popular with Germans before they lost the war. Things must be better now with modern democracy and freedom of speech because UK and USA goverments stand shoulder to shoulder and have rendition flights, torture and finaly indefinite detention without trial at Guatanamo.

I dont see mojority the "independent" press jumping up and down condeming these abuses by western extremists.

Complain, prostest, write to the MP etc, didn't help the Jews in Germany.

I agree with you sister Tahira. Unfortunately by their chauvinist behavior some Muslims are equating Islam with fascism. They need to learn from the seerah of our Prophet (Peace be upon him). For the sake of argument even if we agree with them that Ms Gillian was a planted agent can they punish her without any proof. There is something called decency. It was not long ago when Taliban showed decency towards Yvonne Ridley and the result is that she is now a Muslim. This is how Islam has spread around the world. Not by what the bigots in Iraq did--slaughtering hostages and posting gruesome videos on websites or by what the Sudanese are doing to Ms Gillian. One wonders where did their love for the Prophet (peace be upon him) had gone when, even during the month of Ramadan, Muslims sisters were raped and men killed in Darfur? Unfortunately this is still going on. And then we have the habit of blaming the West for every crisis we have. What had the West to do with these killings and rapes?

Re: Mealnie P

Given the Track record of the British MEDIA in the context of issues in conjunction to ISLAM, they should NOT be given the benefit of the doubt.

I aint agreeing with the Sudanese perspective.

The Question is what is the Sudanese context ?

What is the Sudanese prospective ?
What is the root of this situation ?
From where did they collate the evidence of such a situation to exist ?

The Situation should be evaluated from a Multiperspective.

Prominent British MEDIA does go through phases of being "Biased", and spreading "Propaganda" against Islam.

My understanding is that We are being TOLD, what we should being TOLD, from a selective prospective. Just take a look at the IRAQ WAR, the degree of SPIN that was incorporated.

We only need to see the Historical prospective of the MEDIA to see how much damage it has caused through "BIAS" and "PROPAGANDA" filtering news.

When it comes to the British Media, lol, my coin only has 2 dimensions !!!

You exercised your democratic right to protest and the rest of us exercised our democratic right (because there are more of us) to ignore you. That is democracy. If what you've got to sell is rubbish then you won't sell too many.

Are saying Tahira that the court found as you say above. Note she has been "pardoned" not exonerated of all charges..... only then because our media sought to manipulate public opionion by filling in the blanks and acting as though the whole world agreed with them.

The bit about standing up for injustice I agree with but we must beware of acting like a colonial power and insulting people's intelligence or of resorting to our very own unique brand of racism where we consider other races, cultures, religions and people to be inferior to ourselves. Something that is also against Islam and has been for over 14,00 years.

You clearly accept the logic that the extermination of the Jews, Gipsys, communists and the disabled was ok, because most Germans ("because there were more of" them) chose to ignore the concentration camps, accepted the mass murder millions. They clearly believed that the complainers the had "rubbish" to sell and exterminated them too.

Melanie your perverted logic has a facist quality of the sick NAZI kind.

Back to the point of the thread, can you not see the damage done to the image of your faith? Is Islam that insecure? What are you going to do when "South Park" shows it's own take on Teddygate?
