"Take your bloody veil off" Print E-mail
Thursday, 08 November 2007

Veiled woman by her carA Muslim woman says she is scared to venture out after being ordered to take off her veil in a terrifying ordeal.

Kauser Bibi was in Oldham Town Centre when she says a man began following her and asking her to take off her veil.

"I had just been to the Halifax bank when this guy started shouting 'Oi' at me. I just carried on walking and ignored him at first. Lots of people were there watching and no-one seemed to notice what was going on.

"He followed me and started shouting at me. I walked towards my car but then things got ugly.

"He kept saying Take your bloody veil off - I want to see your face'. He stood in front of my car and then when I tried to reverse started kicking my car. He was really kicking the car door really hard."

"He was abusing me and saying all sorts of other things.

"I was crying and was so upset and panicked. I didn't know what to do.

Kauser of Blackburn who was in Oldham visiting her relatives says that passers-by then intervened and tried to pull him away but he wouldn't listen to them.

"I called the police from my phone but even when they arrived he still kept saying, 'I want her to take off her veil.' "I was still crying and in shock when I got to the police station.

"I am so glad my car was near by. I dread to think what would have happened if my car was parked further away."

"I go out everywhere and this is the first time anything like this has happened to me."

Her sister-in-law Ruksana Calisir said Kauser didn't even tell her family about the incident until days later.

"I was so angry when I heard about it. She seemed to think there some sort of shame in telling us.

"She is a very strong person and nothing seems to bother her but this incident has left her in total shock.

"She is absolutely petrified and doesn't want to go out at all now. She is such a good and kind-hearted person I am absolutely disgusted someone would put her through this.

"People need to know that incidents like these take place and if they are not reported then people will get away with it."

Police said a 50-year-old man from Oldham was arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated damage to a vehicle and was bailed, pending further inquiries.

This is true; most women do not report these incidences!
I think the Leaders in the Mosque should educate the public about reporting to the police, and the silly imam should for once dispel any common misconceptions Muslims might have about approaching the police, the congregation should be told what procedures complaints go through etc. so the Muslim doesn’t feel as if nothing will be done if I report an incident, especially if they have no witnesses etc.

I think getting over that initial barrier will make people report these incidences more and therefore make the world a better place.

I think Muslim women need to learn self defense so that they have the confidence to leather these guys silly, they should take example from the Iranian Women's Police Force.

This is an outrageous hate crime, perpetrated by a racist with an agenda to hurt innocent people. Just another sicko in the making!

I find the veil difficult to accept but had I been near this incident I would have done everything in my power to protect this woman.
I hope the criminal gets what he deserves.

This could get nasty. I mean, real nasty and I am not just talking about some shouting, "take your veil off." I mean, that if suddenly the Muslim youths had enough, then go nuts.

This happened 5 months ago in our city and man kept shouting same thing but what he didn't realise, was 6 Muslim youths were on other side, just over a wall in park.

They at first stared at him and then, went for him. It was messy. So I am hoping not just Mosques starts sharing the procedures of complaint or anyone but also, to work somehow to get message across - that it won't be tolerated either. These are times when it shouldn't be tolerated.

I agree also sisters need to start learning self defence. It is sad to hear this is happening in our day and age, and how these so called idoits pick on women on their own.

Shows you their mentality.

to be honest, I don't have any sympathy for any one in Blackburn who gets attacked for wearing a viel as they elected the MP Jack straw who made it an issue.

If this girl cried when she was attacked, i say what a selfish cow, for not doing anything to stop jack straw from supporting Israel, the war in iraq, terror legislation etc.

In a way i'm glad the chickens are coming home to roost.

Also other then MPAC what other Muslim organisation stood up for the rights of the sisters wearing the Nikab. Even that spineless lancashire council of Mosques did nothing.

Blacburn muslims deserve everything they get.

Brother, how do you know that Kauser Bibi did nothing to campaign against Jack Straw? Let's not be so quick to judge others, especially when its only speculation.

The truth of the matter is why has this guy been released on Police bail, when it is quite clear he has committed offences. Simple so it can be brushed under the carpet- a few years ago a Muslim female in Birmingham had a Police Male Sergeant, force her to remove her veil - the Force looked for a public reaction - nothing happened and guess what - no justice was ever given to that person. Its pathetic when I hear about the so called voices - demanding the Masjids need to act - Are you not Muslims are you not strong enough to stand up and raise your voices - where are your so called Muslim MPs ? where are your so called Campiagners ? I tell you where when someone bull dozes a house 1000's miles away - you all start shouting / when there is problem at your own door step you look the other way. What would have happened if a Muslim had gone up and beat this guy to a pulp after seeing what he was doing ? I tell you what - the guy and others would have thought twice to say or act the way he did.

There is a simple - when you sit at a dinner table - don't look at what the person next to you is eating - look at what is in front of you.

Brother, the moment of people who 'may' be doing somthing is infinite, the people who do something are not. If for nothing else Kausar Bibi is collectively responsible for the hatred aimed at Muslims and her tears are as the article states, because she was attacked.

If Muslims in Blackburn wanted Jack straw out they would have organised to make it happen, in fact they did nothing or not enough.

I stand by my position, and would add, 'sorry you had to wake up, go back to sleep, and maybe it will be alright'

stop defending the indefensible and start focusing your energy on making the difference and holding to account muslims who fail the ummah.

until we are united nothing can be done. I remember when there was election in Blackburn the reporter was asking muslim voter about Jack Straw and they were saying "he help me to bring my wife to this country" so we will vote him. There were mob of muslims who was supporting Jack Straw link to Council of Lanshire Mosques. Is that unity?

The "Lyrical Terrorist" is free on house arrest when she is quite clearly guilty. I think you don't understand the justice system.

If some other guys had 'beat him to a pulp" then we hope they would have been arrested and charged with assualt, or any other crime of violence.

Look, this is a hate crime and the animal who started it should get a prison sentence for religiously aggravated offences.

She has a right to wear the veil just as anyone has the right to take an inference from what wearing the veil means. I don't mean their action should be insulting or violent, I mean that it will have a different effect in social and official scenarios that NOT wearing a veil won't have.

Sorry, but I still find it scary and intimidating.

When Blacks and Asians first migrated to Britain, many people found them scary and intimidating as well.
