Lauren and 11 other celebrities entered the Australian bush on November 13, 2006, and endured 15 days of discomfort and lack of food. However, it was all worth it when she presented a cheque of over £18,000 to Interpal's Vice-Chairman Dr. Essam Mustafa to benefit poor and needy Palestinians. Lauren who recently visited Interpal's office to present the cheque thanked Interpal for continuing its work helping Palestinians in need. She expressed a keen interest to sponsor a needy child on behalf of her young daughters through Interpal. According to her they are extremely saddened that so many children are suffering due to the current situation. She hopes that many other people will follow suit to offer sponsorship to the 800 needy children on Interpal's files who are still waiting to be helped. Lauren is the second British celebrity to nominate Interpal as their charity of choice during reality TV appearances. Early in 2006 George Galloway chose Interpal to benefit from his share, which amounted to more than £53,000, of the proceeds of Channel 4's Celebrity Big Brother (series 4) viewer phone votes. We thank Lauren and George for their fine efforts, and for entrusting Interpal to distribute the funds raised to poor and needy Palestinians. Source: Interpal Readers have left 5 comments.

Yeah - and I'm sure the money really went to help the needy instead of ending up in the pockets of corrupt officials who have no loyalty to the 'state' of 'Palestine' - because there is no such common bond in their minds, no fledgling institutions or national identity.

Good on Lauren. Everyone should take a leaf out of her book and donate money to Interpal who do a really good job on a very important issue.

Oh George, what a cynical comment to make. Perhaps you have been duped by some of our British 'charities' but I for one have every faith in the work of Interpal and I applaud both George Galloway and Lauren Booth for showing their support so openly. If only more of us could open our eyes to the suffering in Palestine, instead of seeing only to our own selfish needs, then more of these poor children could be helped.

Does George Galloway really support the Palestinians and champion for them the same rights as we enjoy in this mulit-party parliamentary democracy? If it were the case why isn't he at the forefront demanding that Palestinian political movements remove weapons from the internal political arena? Why isn't he calling for refomr of the Palestinian constition and legal system?
It seems to me that Mr. Galloway likes the pseudo-revolutionary Kalshnikov-brandishing imagery more than he gives a damn about the welfare of Palestinians. Instead of denying that any of the Interpal money has ended up buying arms, he should be championing the end of corruption. Strangely he falls silent at these crucial moments and disappears from the spotlight.

Galloway is quick to attack the corruption of Saudi Arabia but never said anything about Arafat's corruption or the corruption of the PA for many years.
We are told how Palestinians in Gaza are starving and yet we see Hamas paying salaries out of suitcases. If Hamas were really a revolutionary Muslim Brotherhood organisation then shouldn't they be using the money spent on arms and spend it on food for the Palestinians. Why do you need to buy a gun that gets you killed and face more misery when you can buy food and look after your people. Are Palestinians still using that old chestnut of "resisting"? Resisting what? Israel could invade Gaza and take it over any time it wanted. Resistance is futile - feeding people is not.

Lauren Booth, a well known British journalist, accepted ITV's invitation to appear on the 6th series of I'm a celebrity Get Me Out of Here! last year, and nominated Interpal as the charity of her choice to receive her share of the proceeds of viewer phone votes.
