“Brothers, there is a silver Toyota Avensis, Registration Number XYZ blocking a neighbour’s driveway. Please move it.” Palestine needs to be liberated. Islamophobic attacks are on the rise. Muslims need to engage more in the political system. But are we ready to tackle these issues? Are we worthy to take on these noble causes? How can we do this when some of us are not even capable of basic good manners and etiquettes? Unfortunately, the silver Toyota wasn’t the only guilty vehicle. Everyday at my local mosque there is an announcement about inconsiderate parking. The non-Muslim neighbours are fed up and are threatening legal action, and I don’t blame them. The Imaam is so upset he says he will cancel Taravih prayers if this drama continues. I wonder what our neighbours think about the phantom driveway-blockers? What view do they have about Islam and Muslims? Perhaps Muslims themselves are to blame for much of the negative publicity and opinions directed towards us. Don’t these people who are causing so much disruption realise the extent of the damage they are doing? As Del Boy of Only Fools and Horses fame might say, “Don’t be a plonker all your life (Brother)”. So if you are one of those drivers who is in such a hurry to make it to the front row of the mosque that you inconvenience others, please think again. Only Allah knows best, but perhaps your prayer might not even be accepted. Spare a thought for your neighbours and contemplate the harm you are bringing to your fellow brothers and sisters. Anyhow, must dash – I need to move my car ….. Readers have left 12 comments.

One of the reason's why people leave Islam, because the Imam shows more interest in parked cars than Muslims themselves.

The imam was showing necessary interest in the good manners of the Muslims of his congregation/ jamaat towards their neighbours. Once this is established he can continue with the talk.
Did not the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him,say that Islam is good manners or that a major part of islam is good manners? Good manners means consideration for others and behaving towards them in a correct and pleasant way. Good manners is for everybody, not just fellow Muslims. How can we complain about so-called Islamophobia, when we have no consideration for others?

So what is the imam supposed to do let the car block the drive way, thus the house owner calls the police to have it removed, then the police shall tell the mosque they are creating problems for the neighbourhood so either they find car parking facilities or relocate.
its one thing to ask the imams to talk about issues relevant to our every day lives but the above is very negative. in a positive note mpac should introduce themselves to masjid committees amd then send letters on issues that need to be addressed at the ground level.

Why are so many people missing the point of this article?? I don't think MPAC are criticising the Imam here but the congregation who are acting in such a bad way that the Imam is distracted from more important work and has to deal with issues such as parking problems to the extent that he is considering cancelling prayers until the situation is remedied. Do some of you even read the whole article or try to understand it?

What is the point of making suplication to God, if you are being selfish towards others?
Smacks of hypocrisy! Ramadan is about reflection and correcting flawed behaviour. Anyone can go without food and drink for a set period, but it takes a real M'min(believer)to recognise his shortcomings and, most importantly rectify them!

SubhanAllah. Brothers, sisters, it is obvious: the article isn't saying anything bad about the Imam. It is talking about the adaab, the ethics of the fellow Muslims who don't get their act together to this simple and most important, a nieghbourhood duty to just park their cars in an orderly fashion.
I know a brother, and listen to this - one brother saw how many cars parked in such a way he was saddened. So, he would park his car, 20 mins away from mosque and then walk there. The other brothers laughed at him but then the Imam heard about this brother and he said before leading the prayer: "For the brother who parked his car, 20 mins away and walked all the way here - please come forward." So the brother walked forward, thinking he was in some trouble. Then the imam said: "Pray in the front row brother. You showed me what I forgot." Now, that is teaching adaab and how Allah SWT loves those who are considerate, have character and care for others. Yes, even non-Muslim nieghbours. That's how we Muslims should be.

this article shows the state the muslim ummah is in.
for the softies who think the poor imam is being criticised in this article...well you should feel pity for the imam, look how pathetic he has become? Becasuse of the patheticness of his congregation. how they all occupy one hole. dam if i was the imam, id do more then a rethoric useless announcemnt made everyday……everyday……everyday, and even when the imam throws in a bit of sunnah and quranic verses, the pathetic ummah will still not budge. How useless is that, are we inately against improvement? Are we that pathetic. probably in the whole of UK all mosques have this car problem, how pathetic we cant even solve that… dam if i was the imam id go and get the cars clamped. tell me oh pathetic muslims is that against the sunnah? no you fools it isnt. meek polite fools, so much so you forsake your core values of islam. And don’t you tell me bout no sunnah, in the way I talk…..you can only talk to bloody fools in one manner. Alright ok im going to do wudu…is that religious enough for you? I can even predict your thoughts…what what? Ramadhan? Sunnah? Huh huh? mosques? Cars? Get it? Lol no one really cares, even the imam I bet, to not take any real action on a problem that has a) existed for many many years b) exists everythwere all over the uk and only where there is a mosque.

We’ve just finished the Isha prayer and patiently waiting for the Taravih to start. The Imaam rises to his feet and turns to address the congregation. What pearls of wisdom will be coming from his lips? What enlightenment are we about to receive?
