I am tired of the media’s shoddy reporting on how ‘repressed’ Muslim women are ever since the Archbishops comments and I am amused by their demonisation of Sharia law with respect to women. I am a Muslim woman who lives by the Sharia law and this law gave me the right to inherit, the right to vote, the right to divorce, the right to marry whom I please centuries before women’s rights groups, in the West, such as the suffragettes started campaigning for women’s rights.

Over the last few days, it seems everyone has been questioning Shariah.
It has been called everything from Barbaric for an apparent rule quoted
by the neo-con pro Israel think tank ‘The Centre for Social Cohesion’
that demands the stoning to death of homosexuals. Others claim it was
discriminatory to women, citing rules from having two women as equal to
one man in court, to the no drive rule in Saudi Arabia for women.

However much the intelligence services and the police may be
criticised for their excesses, it should never be forgotten that
thwarting terrorist conspiracies is an extremely difficult job. Suicide
terrorism is a unique offence in that the police cannot arrest
perpetrators after the event. We, the public, demand that these attacks
are disrupted before they take place.

The convictions of five young Muslim men jailed over extremist literature have been quashed by the Appeal Court. Freeing the men, the Lord Chief Justice said there was no proof of terrorist intent. The lawyer for one said they had been jailed for a "thought crime".A jury convicted them in 2007 after hearing the men, of Bradford University and Ilford, London, became obsessed with jihadi websites and literature.
