Israel deliberately targeted civilian infrastructure and committed war crimes during the month-long conflict in Lebanon, according to an Amnesty International report. The report said strikes on civilian buildings and structures went beyond "collateral damage" and amounted to indiscriminate and disproportionate attacks under the Geneva conventions on the laws of war.

Although this weekend's Israeli commando raid into Lebanon was billed by the Israeli government as an effort to prevent the rearming of Hezbollah, many suspect it was designed to grab a high-level Hezbollah leader to exchange for the Israeli soldiers captured by Hezbollah. Why then, wasn't this type of raid Israel's initial response to the soldiers' capture, rather than the leveling of southern Lebanon and the killing of thousands of innocent civilians?

One of the UK's most senior Muslim officer has hit back at critics who accuse him of "blissful ignorance" regarding passenger profiling. Ch Supt Ali Dizaei said the profiling, which takes passengers' religion and race into account, would create an offence of "travelling whilst Asian".

A teenager has been ordered to pay £100 compensation to a pregnant Muslim woman after spitting at her three times. Daniel Thackray, 19, from Aber near Bangor, was also given a six months suspended custodial sentence after admitting racially aggravated assault.

An Israeli court has charged the speaker of the Palestinian parliament, Abdel Aziz Dweik, with being a member of the militant group Hamas. Mr Dweik is one of dozens of Hamas officials to be detained by Israeli authorities in recent weeks. Hamas, which leads the Palestinian government, is illegal in Israel and regarded as a terrorist organisation.

The British government is facing claims it "aided and abetted" violations of international law by allowing US arms flights to Israel to use UK airports. The Islamic Human Rights Commission is seeking High Court leave to challenge government bodies over what it says are crimes against the Geneva Convention.
