Does Israel Intentionally Shoot Children?
Sunday, 26 November 2006

Indira Gandhi Hamuda, the owner of the new kindergarten, an impressive 35-year-old woman, says that during the past months she used to tell the children that the Israelis don't kill children, only those who fire Qassams, and that they had nothing to fear as long as they didn't go up to the rooftops. Last week one of the children asked: "You told us that the Israelis don't kill children, but only the Qassam launchers, so why did they shoot at our minibus?"

Lorna from BICOM (Israeli Lobby Group):
But I have never been more concerned about the false reality many people are constructing around Israel and the Middle East, here and abroad.

The Kitchen: A place where men can cook too
Thursday, 02 November 2006

Early this year I went to Pakistan. One of the most memorable moments was when I was in the kitchen looking at my cousin making chapattis. I made a comment on how small the chapattis were. She looked at me. Smiled and asked if I could do any better. “Yep, making chapattis is dead easy” I answered. Her smile became wider, though from her eyes I could sense her need to reach for a massive cooks knife and her desire to stab me with it repeatedly.

So what has Amnesty International Said about Israel Now?
Saturday, 25 November 2006

Tove Johannsson was then hit in the face with a broken bottle by an Israeli settler, and sustained a broken cheekbone and a fracture near her eye. Her colleagues reported that as she fell to the ground, a group of settlers who were watching the attack clapped and cheered and some tried to take photos of themselves next to her bleeding face, giving the camera a ‘thumbs-up’ sign.

Lorna from BICOM on "Why I'm Backing Israel": "There is never a wrong time to do the right thing and if, like me, you are convinced of Israel's cause, then why not support Israel and why not now?"

Crosses and Veils: Let Them Be
Saturday, 25 November 2006

Rowan Williams, the archbishop of Canterbury, has frequently felt powerless before a divided and troublesome congregation. Yesterday, however, he proved he was a force to be reckoned with when he joined the row over whether a British Airways check-in worker could openly wear a crucifix on a necklace at work.

Lenin: Playing the Anti-Semitism Card
Saturday, 25 November 2006

I think this is a very good discussion, actually, and very important. Growing up in Northern Ireland, I remember many people who actually thought (and many still think) that it has something to do with being a Catholic or a Protestant. In fact, it's a political problem of oppression of Catholics by the occupying British forces. Most ordinary Protestants (like me) don't benefit from this oppression, even though we're encouraged to believe we do.

UK Allows Zionists to Kill Palestinians - Are We Allowed To Defend Them?
Thursday, 23 November 2006

He grew up in suburban north London and still misses home comforts like milky British tea, the friends he left behind and the local pub. But yesterday Joe Wainer joined an elite Israeli army unit, and now he faces the prospect of active service in the occupied West Bank. The 19-year-old, one of nine young Britons who have signed up for a programme that recruits foreign Jews for the Israel Defence Forces, realised his life had changed when he fired an M16 rifle for the first time in training.

Murdoch Is A Danger To Democracy
Thursday, 23 November 2006

I do not usually admire middle America, but on this occasion I wonder if it should be an inspiration to us all. OJ Simpson - who, while acquitted of actually murdering his ex-wife and her friend, was held responsible in a civil court for her death - was about to give the world, courtesy of Rupert Murdoch, a "hypothetical" account of how he could have committed the crime. Murdoch's News Corporation had a book lined up, a TV interview that would be syndicated across America and, no doubt, countless spin-offs in other countries and media. Public opinion, including bookshop and TV staff, cried "enough".

Anti-War Blogger: Lay Off MPACUK
Thursday, 23 November 2006

MPACUK is not an antisemitic organisation. I have all sorts of disagreements with MPACUK's politics (which are too narrow), and with the cavalier approach to what sort of material may appear on their website (which is too loose), but the organisation is not antisemitic. The Observer allows you to think that MPACUK is impugned here by following up its news with discussions about accusations of antisemitism against MPACUK, including a disgraceful NUS 'no platform' policy pushed through by Labour Students and their supporters in 2004.
