It’s a Sunday morning, and I hear the familiar buzz of excitement in the air. The girls always manage to lift the spirit of any occasion, even on dreary Sunday mornings. Actually, I don’t think they would appreciate me calling them girls, they are young women....and beautiful muslim ones at that. Sometimes I can not help but gush with pride, they are intelligent, articulate and willing to learn and change. The best thing is that I get the privilege of teaching them. They are special to me and I feel a sense of responsibility towards them.
"War is essentially an evil thing. Its consequences are not confined to the belligerent states alone, but affect the whole world. To initiate a war of aggression, is not only an international crime, it is the supreme international crime, differing from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole." This was a summation verdict issued at The International Tribunal at Nuremburg that convicted the leaders of the Third Reich for their crimes committed during the Second World War. 60 years on and these words still apply.
It has been a war of lies from the start. All governments lie in wartime but American and British propaganda in Iraq over the past five years has been more untruthful than in any conflict since the First World War. The outcome has been an official picture of Iraq akin to fantasy and an inability to learn from mistakes because of a refusal to admit that any occurred. Yet the war began with just such a mistake. Five years ago, on the evening of 19 March 2003, President George Bush appeared on American television to say that military action had started against Iraq.

Misconceptions about Islam are widespread across the world. Whether
it's about Islam oppressing women or Muslims being anti-Semitic,
Muslims are no strangers to such charges. With media coverage about
Islam growing daily, it is important to address some of the
misconceptions head on. Who better to do this than Muslim women
themselves? Here are some facts about Islam written by Muslims sisters.
The current political climate is full of the “language of evil”. We are
fighting the evil enemy that is Al-Qaeda and international terrorism;
we are faced with radical states that form the “Axis of Evil”; we are
fighting those who would seek to destroy us from within – mainly
radical elements of the Muslim minority. The language of evil has many uses for our political leaders today, who
seek to employ it in their efforts to maintain their power base.
